One of the greatest dialogue writers there ever was. At his best, I could listen to his characters talk to each other like it was music. Love his plays American Buffalo and Glengarry Glen Ross. Love the scripts he wrote for The Untouchables and Wag the Dog. A couple of underrated films of his I would recommend are The Edge (1997), a survival thriller he wrote starring Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin as two men stranded in the Alaskan wilderness who are being stalked by a huge Kodiak bear. The other is State and Main (2000), which he wrote and directed, about a Hollywood film crew who comes to a small New England town to shoot a movie. One of the few comedies Mamet has made (along with Wag the Dog), and definitely one of the funniest overlooked films about Hollywood.

2022-04-15 00:50:24 +0000 UTCHis comment about teachers was so unfortunate because it gives the media and others a simple reason to dismiss him, and I hate that. I want to see more prominent art from people who are outwardly conservative. It makes the cultural conversation much more interesting. I enjoy almost all of Mamet’s films, especially House of Games, Homicide, The Spanish Prisoner and Heist.
