40K

Hey ya'll. I hit 40K yesterday, which is pretty exciting. I'm going to release a video to everyone letting them know about a Q&A video I plan on doing. But, of course you guys as always, get first dibs on questions. So, feel free to ask me anything below. Thank you guys so much for supporting me as you do. I feel thankful everyday for it. :)

That's awesome! Excited for the other milestones. Q: When it comes to foreign films, do you prefer dub or sub?

MacLachlan

Congratulations! At the speed your channel is growing you'll be flying past 50k before the end of the year! Nice work.

Ross Skilton

Congrats on reaching 40,000 subscribers. I know a lot of hard work went into getting to this point, more than I could fathom. Your success is deserved. I hope your channel subscriptions continue to grow and more people are able to see what a great critic you are. Here’s my question: What do films set in Texas get right about the state and what do they get wrong?

Bennett Oliver

You're wonderful. So happy I found your channel. It was completely on a whim since before you I was admittedly a little bit of a snob when it came to Youtube critics but randomly gave one of your videos a chance (Blackkklansman Review) and have been watching since. Question: Since you've mentioned that you enjoy hiking, do you have favorite place you've explored?

Stephen

Do you have any interest in filmmaking, yourself, such as writing, perhaps?

Steven Aguilera

First of all, congrats on 40k! Your reviews are fantastic. Given the amount of foreign movies you’ve watched and reviewed, I’m wondering if any of them have inspired you to become more interested in learning about other cultures. For myself, watching Bong Joon Ho’s movies inspired me to learn more about Korean culture and I ended up studying abroad there. Do you have an experience like that you can relate to? Have you ever taken a trip that was inspired by a film or a director? Gotten really into a cuisine that was heavily featured in a film you like? Etc.

Jackson Littlewood

Are you happy with the way the channel has been growing since you started?

thoughts on veganism / ethical veganism?

About a month ago, Patreon went on a run banning large channels like Sydney Watson and she said she barely used her account here. You still considering moving to another site? I told you about Locals.com before and I'm part of a community there that knows me so I could tell them to support you when you start an account there.

Hell yeah dude, happy for you πŸ€™πŸ½πŸ€™πŸ½ what are some of your favorite acting performances from artists who are mainly singers/musicians?

Jared Angcanan

Congratulations ! Keep up the good work, Maggie !

Klaus Gehrmann

Congrats! The channel is catching fire

Congratulations! Can you speak to how quickly your following has grown recently? I know you've been doing videos for 5+ years and it feels like you've been doing film critique for longer than that but -- if im not mistaken -- you went from ~18k to ~40k in the past year (roughly guess). There are two things I think about in regards to this growth: 1) It's easier to get from 10,000 to 1,000,000 than it is to get from 1 to 10,000. I think algorithims have a preference for established channels with frequent content, but is it just how the numbers work out? Did you make a concentrated effort to be more active or do different types of reviews as the channel got larger? 2) Have you adapted your content at all or feel the need to "please the audience?" I recently read a Twitter thread about how people undervalue making content intended for "smart people" because that demographic is always in the minority. However, up-and-coming trends usually begin with this minority of enthusiasts and for some reason or another it spirals out into mainstream appeal eventually. I see this in your channel with the Cowboy Bebop video which quickly became your most viewed ever, simply because it was the right video at the right time. When I was making videos I felt the need to chase the zeitgeist but found it very exhausting. Do you feel that need? I love your creations. They're very personal and provide an intimate examination of some of the most affecting pieces of art that exist today. While it is kind of silly to consider "this 100k video is literally some girl kneeling on his living room carpet," it's obvious the driving appeal is your genuineness and vast knowledge. I hope this platform serves you well and allows you to continue doing what you enjoy most!

Congrats :D
