THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS

What ya'll think?

Comments

To me, this is just a cash grab for Warner, and it will be visually stunning while substantively void. I won't be rushing to see it on opening weekend.

Atticus Xey

A pleasant surprise is always a bonus! I know cinema has been a kind of no go area for the last 18 months or so but I will definitely be going to see Dune on the big screen as I think that it will shine in that environment.

Ross Skilton

The Matrix and Cloud Atlas were so unbelievably good I give the Wachowskis a lifetime benefit of the doubt. I personally like the blue pill/prescription drug continuation of a theme. We know it was only rebooted to create a cinematic universe like Marvel, but once you concede that's the origin of this creative project I'm very hopeful for it. The Matrix is very inherently cerebral and the core of its narrative is far more challenging than "good vs. bad." I would love for it to be successful.

It’s in a coma and the doc is about to pull the plug

Revisiting my earlier comments about reboots, remakes, sequels, etc - I think it says a lot about American society. It is both a strong feeling of nostalgia combined with a total lack of creativity. The US is entering into a transitionary stage - some see it as the beginning of the end (and it certainly is in some ways). Nostalgia usually rears its head during periods of difficult transition and serves as 'comfort food' as we have bittersweet memories of the good ole days - we fondly remember those days knowing they shall never return. Culturally speaking, we have become stagnant and the lack of new Hollywood ideas is just a symptom of a culture that is no longer developing or progressing or growing. American culture breeds qualities like narcissism, alienation, victimhood, instant gratification, television zombiehood, libertinism, groupthink, etc - basically, America is no longer a serious country and is culturally dead. Hollywood's inability to create and capitalize on new, unique ideas is just one of the first death knells of America.

I just want Hollywood to fuckin die already! Oh wait! They are!

yeah I'm curious about Fishburne.

Yeah it definitely was lacking aesthetically and all that. But I expect nothing less. The Wachowski's aren't exactly what they were often enough. But...I dunno. I thought the concept was kinda interesting. I also enjoyed NPH saying "We don't use that word in here." XD Thought that was funny.

I only do streaming but...I'm intrigued. Wasn't what I was expected, so at least there's that.

What are your thoughts though, Maggie?

Tony Moro

I agree with this sentiment. In general it just felt uninspired and looks like it will be a retread of the same ideas. Hopefully this isn't the case, but given the trajectory of many remakes, reboots, sequels, etc. lately it feels like it will be a movie constantly referencing/reminding you how great the original was and they're here to give more of the same.

It looks ok, It's an excuse to rewatch the original trilogy, it has been an age since I last watched 2 & 3 and I sometimes hear people say they are better than most people give them credit for, that's not how I remember it but hey ho worth a go. I suspect that Spiderman No Way Home, which comes out on the 17th will cause it to die at the box office. I won't rush to see it, but if a friend wants to go I will make the effort, otherwise I'll catch it later on streaming.

It made me think of when I saw the trailer for the first film, and how cool, mysterious, and intriguing it looked, and that was before I saw the bullet-time scene at the very end. I had never seen anything like it. I was hooked. And lo and behold, The Matrix was the kick-ass film of 1999, being everything that The Phantom Menace wasn’t. The Resurrections trailer, on the other hand, looks like reheated, warmed-over shit, indistinguishable from every other would-be blockbuster trailer. Every shot looks like it was CGI-polished to within an inch of its life (I know it’s supposed to take place in a fake reality, but these days, EVERY high-budget studio movie looks like it was shot in the Matrix), and everything that made the original film unique has long been absorbed into the mainstream, making it all look rote and routine. What once was cool is now…meh.

I don't hsve much interest, I may check it out at some point. Actually, I'll go see it, so I'll be able to discuss it with people. Also, I'm pretty sure Trinity and Neo both died. They brought them back, but not Fishburne? Seriously?

Jestergambit

I'm just really tired of seeing the same ole garbage over and over again. It's either capeshit or some other IP that they're milking every last cent out of. It really shows a lack of creativity from Hollywood. It probably says a lot about society since we keep throwing all of our money at these obvious cash grabs.

Ryan

It looked pretty awful. The original is a masterpiece while the sequels were pretty lame. This sequel doesn't appear to be any different. As Tony stated above, it doesn't even feel like it's part of the same story.

Ryan

Dogshit!! Doesn't look or feel like the other films. Say what you will about Reloaded and Revolutions, they still felt like they were apart of what was set up in the first film. Resurrections looks and feels completely different and doesn't appear to have that same philosophical punch of the originals. I love Keanu but I REFUSE to watch this! Fuck Hollywood and their satanic pedophile horseshit!
