Someone please answer this question for me
Added 2021-09-29 18:34:46 +0000 UTCWho in the world watches Stephen Colbert? Any of you? Your friends? Relatives? I genuinely want to know. Watching clips of his show now is like being part of a dystopian novel of the future. It chills me to the bone because there seems to be absolutely no irony at all in this so-called "writing." I just saw his "vaccine dance" and retweeted it via Eric Weinstein on twitter......holy shit. It made me want to throw up. This is the end, beautiful friends. I have seen a glimpse of our eminent downfall as a human race in a parade of variety show dancers dressed in vaccine costumes. I hope one day Colbert wakes up and sees that he has become the monster he claimed he never wanted to be in an almost Lynchian sense. It will be a brutal awakening on judgement day. ><
Also please remember.....people actually wrote this material. It was approved for national television. It won Emmy's. I urge you to keep your common sense in tact and recognize....this is not normal.

Nolan sucks!

2021-10-01 03:46:20 +0000 UTCYeah it's kind of incredible. It terrifies me how much compliance has become something nearly demanded of us.

2021-10-01 03:45:52 +0000 UTCI agree with you a lot. However, I don't think it was all due to Trump. However...he is a huge reason it escalated the way he did.

2021-10-01 03:45:04 +0000 UTCOh his entire show is like this to varying degrees. You seem to miss the point.

2021-10-01 03:42:46 +0000 UTC>< I don't hate Nolan. He's just not my cup of tea. Comparing him here would be an insult to Nolan.

2021-09-30 03:27:25 +0000 UTCLate Night TV died years ago! We're witnessing the end of it. Even Conan knew he had to leave.

2021-09-30 01:36:57 +0000 UTCI think you are overreacting. One poorly written comedy sketch is rather minor in the grand scheme of things. Perhaps you disagree with his political views. So be it. Its not the end of the world you think it is.

2021-09-30 01:19:07 +0000 UTCTr*mp in the Presidential sphere basically ruined late night television, because the political news cycle became impossible to parody or mock. No one could even keep up with it. And I think that was part of the administration's intention. The late-night hosts can't stop talking about him, because ratings... because they don't know how to structure topical bits anymore... because he's honestly been exonerated and imitated by deplorable politicians who're still in office. Regarding Colbert specifically, I will say that it's sad as fuck to see him, a comedian who pretended to be a raging narcissist, actually become one in real life, or as his current public persona appears on national TV. However, after listening to some of his serious interview questions to many writers he's had as guests, I think he'd be better stepping away from comedy altogether at this point.

2021-09-29 21:53:09 +0000 UTCColbert sold his soul at the alter of the satanic propaganda machine that has hijacked our culture. It isn't funny, amusing, and it wouldn't even be relevant, except it is the direction this insidious manufactured movement is pushing us. It's starting to make Orwell's vision look pale in comparison.

2021-09-29 21:45:35 +0000 UTCCarson was amazing. I liked Leno when I was younger, but lost interest as I got older. The last nail in the coffin, was him taking the Tonight Show from Conan.

2021-09-29 21:17:40 +0000 UTCThe only talk show I ever liked when it was still going on was Jay Leno and it was only for his opening jokes and headlines. Haven't gotten into any others since. I wouldn't put it past any live tv hosts or skit shows these days to abandon all semblance of taste. I prefer the wit and insightfulness of Johnny Carson or Dick Cavett.

2021-09-29 21:11:42 +0000 UTCOk, I watched the "Vac-Scene Box Set" vid on YouTube. .........I can't even process that. Why would do that? You're making joke of the vaccine. That's not gonna do any good, for anyone? I can't...

2021-09-29 21:10:50 +0000 UTCClips like that are why the only talk show I watch is Graham Norton (and sometimes Conan, until he left). It’s too bad Norm never made it on that show. Imagine the trouble he would have caused.

2021-09-29 21:03:44 +0000 UTCThat makes perfect sense, my only thought is to highlight that there is a huge difference between liberalism and actual leftist ideology, and I think a lot of people understandably (because of the way the discourse is shaped by media) conflate the two. The former is mainly interested in fighting cultural battles under the framework of our capitalist political economy without challenging it at all, while the actual left (whether you look back through history or the small bit that is left today) wants to unite people of all possible identities against the a common enemy (in short, Capital). As a leftist, I view woke culture as bad not because it challenges tradition or anything like that, but because it engrains a sense of separateness and divisiveness in people, which makes building solidary even more difficult than it already is at this socially atomized point in history. Of course the real answer is to be out in the world building real connections, organizations, and culture that works against the current order; BUT in the meantime there are definitely some really great publications and "content creators" (ugh) out there that are at least starting to build that aspect of said counter-culture that have definitely made me feel less alienated in my views. I'll spare you any specific recommendations unless asked haha :)

2021-09-29 20:28:21 +0000 UTCColbert is friends with Weinstein and Epstein and has been to Epstein's island many times. What does that tell you?

2021-09-29 20:05:49 +0000 UTCI consider myself left-leaning, liberal person by nature. But...this is why I am so critical of the current neo liberal movement. It is nothing that I stand for or represent. So I abandoned ship and try to be more independent. There is plenty of criticism to go around but...when all mainstream propaganda comes from the left...hard to argue that there isn't an imbalance. Neo liberals idea of "woke" means being a brand. My idea of being woke is facing mortality and realizing the pointlessness of all the nonsense. That is an extreme difference.

2021-09-29 20:00:42 +0000 UTCJust watched it... God that was disturbing... In all honesty I've never been the biggest fan of Colbert, he has always come off as a little too smug. Additionally, he has a very particular point of view that only fits a certain audience. I never understood why they replaced Letterman with him. Letterman made his political leanings known when he was on air but he at least, in my opinion, had more appeal beyond that.

2021-09-29 19:38:59 +0000 UTCColbert was funny back in the day during the Bush Era where neoconservative thought reigned. He made his entire schtick on being an amalgamation/parody of people like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly - a bombastic, jingoistic blowhard. Nowadays, that's no longer the case. Neoconservatives are on the outside of politics looking in (Thank God). Sadly, Neoliberalism reigns supreme. Someone like Trump was merely a product of a populist flash-in-the-pan movement - what it was when it first happened and what it is today are entirely different altogether - regardless, both are also on the outside of the mainsteam political establishment as well.
Ryan
2021-09-29 19:14:58 +0000 UTCMeanwhile, comedians like Dave Chapelle or the late Norm McDonald are described as being 'problematic' for the insensitive material regarding lambasting neoliberal establishment sacred cows i.e. feminism, LBGT, racial issues, etc.
Ryan
2021-09-29 19:09:42 +0000 UTCComedy has taken a shift from poking fun at establishment norms and mores to reinforcing them. People who like Colbert nowadays are purely in the camp of what can be described as 'the establishment' in terms of their politics, views, etc. They don't want to hear someone who is going to mock them for their held beliefs. They want a cheerleader. Watching Colbert is like watching a pep rally.
Ryan
2021-09-29 19:07:14 +0000 UTCyea I mean this is some dogshit right here, but that's what late night TV is in my opinion. I'm more intrigued by the Weinstein reference; I've wondered several times if you're generally coming from a more right or left perspective, generally. You have a lot of critiques of liberal culture that I agree with as a leftist, but those same takes could also be coming from a right perspective. I've also heard you speak against woke culture AND consumerism, and again I agree with both. This is not meant to pry or call you out, just genuinely curious. Maybe you don't wanna go there, understandably, but I guess my point is that most people are stuck in this inverse binary thinking in terms of political ideology, and I think we need more people like you articulating a more nuanced (which is not to say "moderate") perspective. sorry for the rant heh

2021-09-29 18:58:57 +0000 UTCAlso, Corben waa the worst part of the Friends Reunion. Why was even there? Ok, I'm done

2021-09-29 18:57:54 +0000 UTCNobody watches Late Night hosts anymore. They're all satanic pedophiles. There's a DISTURBING video that I have with Colbert dressed up as some clown or whatever abusing and scaring a child.

2021-09-29 18:54:43 +0000 UTCI enjoyed The Colbert Report, but once he started late night, it went to garbage. Late Night is a dumpster fire. It was over once Letterman left. Conan was always solid, imo. Leno was the worst.
Jestergambit
2021-09-29 18:53:46 +0000 UTCYeah a lot of talk show people wanna have it both ways. They want the glory as these political savants, but when the Heat comes it’s all “oh I’m just a comedian” I’m playing a character(Gavin Mcginnes, Trevor Noah just to name a few)

2021-09-29 18:46:08 +0000 UTCIs this a step down from what he used to do? Genuinely asking because I haven't watched him either on his late night show or on his Comedy Central bits.
