Topic Video Question

What movie have you seen the most and why?

Comments

The 1986 animated Transformers movie. I've seen honestly around 300 times. As a child I really appreciated the extremely dark tone and loved that it wasn't afraid to kill off characters... Even if this was just a cynical move by the toy company to make room for new characters to sell on store shelves it still made for an extremely memorable film that was way better than it even needed to be. Plus the music and animation are both fantastic.

Most likely either Jaws or The Never-Ending Story - I saw both as a kid and then rewatched them endlessly.

In my childhood years, it was the original Star Wars trilogy. I wore out those VHS tapes watching them over and over again. As I got older, it was the Lord of the Rings films. More specifically, the Extended Edition DVDs. I watched Fellowship the most because it was my favorite and it was the one that benefited the most from the extra footage (and it wasn’t insanely long like RotK, which did NOT benefit from the extra footage, not even Saruman’s anticlimactic death). But it wasn’t just the movies, it was the documentaries and commentaries, too. I especially watched these DVDs during the holiday season. Sometimes I didn’t even watch them, I just had them on while I did other things. Eventually I outgrew them like I did Star Wars, but for a good few years, I never had a more prized set of DVDs.

The entire Austin powers series, I’ve seen it so many times as a child with my family and every few months I’ll put one of them on. Just endless one liners and prime Mike Myers, what’s not to enjoy?

Anthony Murray

This answer is probably shared by many people my age, but the original Star Wars trilogy. My mom said whenever I was home sick from school, I would watch all three right in a row and that would take up most of the day. As an adult, it’s probably Dazed and Confused, The Big Lebowski and Pulp Fiction. I know every line by heart but still enjoy watching them every time.

Don't laugh! :) Three Gifts/Wishes/Nuts for Cinderella aka Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel. I guess only a minority of native English speakers would know this movie, but this tchechoslovakian classic from 1973 is absolute cult and a must-watch during Christmas season in Germany and other german-speaking countries. Growing up in that time I watched this movie an uncounted number of times, not only because I had to because I wanted to! The musical score by Karel Svoboda is other-worldly beautiful! Sadly, Libuše Šafránková the actress who played Cinderella/Aschenbrödel passed away in 2021. :( P.S. Most youtube videos with scenes from the film are frankly horrible and misleading! Probably John Carpenter's Halloween. Every year I rewatch it either on Halloween night or sometime in October. Its just a very satisfying horror movie, from the creepy story, to Carpenter's amazing direction, and of course that iconic score. It also has a perfect ending that stands on its own regardless of how many pointless sequels they make.

A movie I have seen the most times in the theaters though is La la Land. Saw it 11 times! Lol

I'm not sure what the movie is that I've seen the most times, but the movie I've seen the most times in a theater was the original Star Wars (Episode 4). I saw it six times when it originally came out in the seventies. I think that I just got wrapped up in the mania of the time more than actually loving the movie. I also saw Rocky Horror Picture Show many times on small screens, in the theater, and two live productions. This play is just really fun.

To me watching a movie a lot (like with music) doesn't mean it's the greatest movie. I think Shindler's List is one of the greatest movies I've seen but I've only seen it once (I can't bring myself to see it again). It's how does the movie make me feel; the most important things are the nostalgia, the music (feel), the dialogue, the acting, the coolness factor, etc.

Michael Smith

It's hard to remember which I've seen more but I've got some candidates: 1) The Dark Knight (no explanation needed -- three people: Heath Ledger, Hans Zimmer, Christopher Nolan) 2) The Departed (the acting, the accents, the story, the violence, the intensity, Scorsese, Leo, the Irish music, the irreverence, the plot twists, the subversive ending) -- I once watched this movie 5 times in a row. 3) The Social Network (the script, the music, the acting, the cinematography, the sound quality, it inspired me to become a software developer) 4) Pulp Fiction (no explanation needed, the most badass movie of all time, the dialogue is divine).

Michael Smith

I have seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 more times than I can remember. I watched it every week when I was young.

Tony Moro

Sadly, The Cat in the Hat with Mike Myers. I couldn't tell you why outside of the fact that I was a dumb kid who knew nothing about artistry and didn't know he was being manipulated. My sister and I would watch it every day for months and recite it line for line. I wish I could burn it out of my memory forever because just thinking about that...abomination of humanity fills me with rage. The only good thing is that I can definitively say it's the worst movie I've ever seen. I can't believe they banned Dr. Seuss books and not this.
