Best of 2021

What are some of your favorite films of 2021? I never do lists like that because I don't see that many films each year. Also, I'm picky. XD But I'd love to know what you guys have to say. I'm looking for suggestions as well.

I'm not a theater person. But there are many streaming services.

I really wanna see Red Rocket. Been seeing clips of it on Sean Baker's IG lately.

Agree with you on Titane. Also looking forward to Macbeth and Licorce Pizza. Would like to see The Worst Person in the World as well.

My list for now includes: The Last Duel - Ridley Scott's best movie in awhile in my opinion Titane No Sudden Move Pig The Suicide Squad - I liked this way more than I thought I would. Judas and the Black Messiah Like Tyler and Bennett mentioned there are still a bunch of movies I need to catch up with including some of the ones they listed. Being a big fan of Paul Thomas Anderson, I really can't wait to see Licorice Pizza. Also, like you I'm mixed on The Power of the Dog but think I might like it more on repeated viewings.

Most of the films you reviewed that came out this year I'll never watch lol

Didnt bother to see any of the crap that came out this year. But, because this film was technically released earlier this year, the only good film I saw was the Snyder Cut of Justice League, which blew me away. Another great film that came out that really surprised me was 8-Bit Christmas on HBO Max. Very delightful Christmas film!

Mass is my favorite film I’ve seen this year. Seeing that was a wrenching but ultimately very rewarding experience. Titane was the other one I liked a lot. Other than those, I can’t think of another film I found to be great. I wanted to like The Power of the Dog more than I did, but it was more concerned with being oblique rather than nuanced. The Green Knight is a film I admire more than I love. With its not-quite hero’s journey, it’s more successful as an artful piece of deconstruction than as an involving story. And Pig, despite a soulfully committed performance from Nicolas Cage, has thematic ideas that don’t hold up to scrutiny. Then again, I haven’t seen all the films released this year, or even most. I really want to see the Japanese film Drive My Car. I’ve heard great things about it. Other films I want to see are: Licorice Pizza, Red Rocket, Zola, No Man of God, West Side Story, The Worst Person in the World, The Novice, C’mon, C’mon, and Belfast (okay, my mom wants to see that more than I do, but I’m taking her during the holidays). Those are the movies I can think of.

My favorite thing from this year is pretty firmly Titane for very obvious reasons. I'm also very much in love with Spencer, West Side Story, The Green Knight and Dune. As far as things you haven't seen yet that I highly recommend, Red Rocket by Sean Baker is a fantastic comedic character study and for my money his best film to date. The Worst Person in the World is a movie I REALLY think you should check out next year when it's available to you. A charming, slightly dreamy relatable character study that really hit home for me and I think would resonate with a lot of people on this Patreon since we're all in thay early and to late 20s age range. Still lots of big stuff to see like the new PTA Licorice Pizza, new Del Toro Nightmare Alley and new Joel Coen The Tragedy of MacBeth. I've been really impressed with this year personally.

Tyler Shobe

I didn't see a single film released this year. The only time I went to the theater was for my nephew's 6th birthday party. I left before the movie started because it was Boss Baby 2.
