Doing a part II of your favorite guilty pleasure movies and why. Can be Christmas themed if you want...but not necessarily. Whatever you're vibe is here...I'll roll with it. :)

Really tough to answer that question. Considering movies I know hardly any guilt feelings... :) I think it very much depends on the state of mind/mood I am having . Maybe some trashy movie that I enjoyed watching far back, especially as a kid or teenager. Rendering me to refuse thinking it might be a bad or even inappropriate film from an objective perspective. "Barbarella" immediately comes to mind, though I haven't rewatched the movie for at least 20 years, I guess. Clearly a child of its time, both erotic and goofy but with fantastic, imaginative design. Another movie I fondly remember that seems to belong in this category is ... "Zardoz"! As for more recent movies I have rewatched on a more regular basis: Maybe "Down with Love"... I think it's a hilarious musical. A feelgood movie that always works (for me, at least).

I don’t feel guilty about it, but sometimes when I mention to people that I love the Jackass movies, they give me a look of pure disgust. What’s not to like? It’s a bunch of guys doing stupid, random, dangerous, disgusting things and hurting themselves in the process. What makes Jackass funny—that is, what keeps it from being a horror show—is that the guys are clearly enjoying what they’re doing, and they’re very close to each other as a result. They bond by giving and receiving pain. But I’ll admit, when I watch for the umpteenth time Steve-O vomit into a fishbowl on his head because Preston’s letting out a rank fart through a hose that’s connected to it, I wonder to myself why I watch such things. But then I shrug it off and move on to the next moronic stunt.

The other day I noticed that there had been another American Pie Presents film called: Girls' Rules. I thought to myself - I must watch that (since I have seen all the others.) The thing is though, I would happily watch any of the American Pie films including the later spin offs cause Guilty Pleasures. : )

Well, since you bring it up, Maggie, one of my biggest guilty pleasures happens to be a Christmas film, and that's 2009's A Christmas Carol directed by Robert Zemeckis. Honestly this is his best mo-cap film that he's made. The dialogue is straight out of the novel which was wonderful to hear. The animation works this time for the style they were going for, not necessarily going for any kind of realism. Jim Carrey is my third favorite Scrooge behind George C. Scott and Alastair Sim. I thought he nailed the character! The rest of the performances were also fantastic. I also really loved the more horror aspects in the film since the original story was meant to be a horror ghost story. The adventurous elements when the ghosts showed up kept things light so it never felt too dark. And the pacing was very well done, never got the feeling that anything was rushed through. A very underrated version of the story!

The Omen (1976). I rewatched it for the first time in many years and it has no subtlety, mystery, or nuance and felt like a campy knockoff of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist. The music especially was overused and felt so in your face with its Latin choir, or whatever language it was, that it borders on parody. However, I got a lot of laughs from the absurdity especially from the decapitation scene which nearly had me howling. Also, gotta give props to Gregory Peck for being 100% committed to the role. He's a professional at work and manages to be completely convincing and escapes unscathed from the silliness with dignity which only the greatest actors can do.
