Topic Question

I've always wanted to do this. Let's try some fantasy casting. Take a movie, and cast a different actor in a famous role. Topic video to follow.

I don’t think that’s worthy of any flack at all. You’re right, he would be perfect.

Bennett Oliver

John Travolta in Days of Heaven. Malick’s first choice. I wonder if it would have looked more like Badlands.

Matthew Capuano

Kyle Mglaulin as the main character in Lost Highway! No hate on Bill Pullman, he did his thing, but it feels like it was written for him. That kind of handsome white bread exterior, but with a weird darkness underneath that makes him a perfect Muse for Lynch. It’s almost like an extension from Jeffrey’s dark side from Blue Velvet. Watching his performance in Twin Peaks Returns only emphasises how perfect has would’ve been in that role.

jared Clarke

Even though I could get flack for this, I believe Adam Driver as Travis Bickle would be perfect. The amount of range Driver has is uncanny, and he plays villainous roles wonderfully. He’s someone that isn’t afraid to show his dark side, while also incorporating enough charisma into his characters. And no, I’m not picking him due to his last name being Driver… but it is a nice touch.

I REALLY want to see a remake of Psycho! You know who's PICTURE PERFECT as Norman Bates? Vince Vaughn! He'd NAIL IT!!

And just because I’m having too much fun with this: L.A. Confidential (1954 premake) Ed Exley (Guy Pearce role)—Montgomery Clift Bud White (Russell Crowe role)—Marlon Brando Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey role)—Frank Sinatra (Curtis Hanson would’ve wanted Dino, but I say we go for the Chairman of the Board) Dudley Smith (James Cromwell role)—Sterling Hayden (too young? leaning too much into later Godfather casting? Lynn Bracken (Kim Basinger role)—Veronica Lake (why not?) Pierce Patchett ( David Strathairn role)—Claude Rains Sid Hudgens (Danny DeVito role) — Peter Lorre If anyone has better suggestions, go for it.

Top Gun-era Tom Cruise as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. The only thing wrong with this casting is that it might be too perfect, too on the nose. But I say it makes total sense to have the ultimate swaggering, cocksure all-American alpha male movie star of 1980s Hollywood play the ultimate elite, cold-blooded yuppie scumbag of 1980s Wall Street. Cruise as Bateman would not only be the savage indictment of yuppie culture that the novel intended, but also a scathing send-up of his own Cruiseness. He’s always been at his best when he’s played roles that deconstruct his persona and show the turmoil underneath, such as the misogynistic self-help guru in Magnolia. Playing Bateman would allow him to do that. I mean really, there’s always been a little too much intensity going on in Cruise—it comes out in his ultraprofessionalism and, most unsettlingly, when he turns on the charm—that could be indicative of a much darker element in him. It makes him the right choice to play a sleek urban psychopath. Besides, it’s been said already that Christian Bale was inspired in his performance by the energy that Cruise gave off in an interview on Letterman that he saw one night. Had Cruise been young enough at the time, I say that’s reason enough to bypass Bale and go straight to the source of madness.

I would cast you as Miss Scarlett for a Clue Remake!

The Dark Knight. Have Heath Ledger as Batman and Christian Bale as the Joker. Could be interesting.

Duncan Elliott

The Graduate, but Michael Douglas as Ben Braddock in place of Dustin Hoffman. Hoffman seemed a little too old/worldly to me, and not quite the right kind of charisma for the role. It's a classic movie as is, but Douglas is closer to the right age, and I think his screen presence would be a better match.

Derek H.

Maggie, start training like Gabrielle Daleman and you could easily land the role in a remake of Cutting Edge!

XD aww you're sweet. When I was a little girl...I basically was Belle. I just pretended to be her.

Deepfocuslens

You as Belle in live action Beauty and the Beast. You're more natural than Emma Watson and your singing voice wouldn't need autotuning.

Wolfman Brandon

I've always thought Leonardo Di Caprio was best when he was a tortured and sympathetic character — Catch Me If You Can probably his peak — so I've always found his role as Jordan Belfort in Wolf of Wall Street to be a complete and total miscast. I would have loved to seen an actor who is actually unhinged. Christian Bale is an obvious pick. I even think Shia LaBeouf would've been pretty good. I think what I really want is to have a time machine and to get Mel Gibson from the early 90s. Today Gibson is kind of a disgraced former star, but he really could capture that deranged personality and make it likable which was essential to the role in Wolf of Wall Street.

Arthur Augustyn

I would have loved to have seen what Kirk Douglas would have done with the Randle McMurphy role in One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest. I wish there was a recording of his performance when he done the Broadway play version in the 60's.

Ross Skilton

I would EASILY cast Nathan Fillion in 1999's The Mummy!
