What is your most anticipated film of 2025 and why?

Comments

I got three : The new Park Chan Wook movie, "No Other Choice" he is my favorite director, Bugonia because it's a remake of one of my favorite movie and I'm curious too see how Yorgos Lanthimos will adapt that, and Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein

I can’t find the source I read it from unfortunately. Hopefully it is a rumor and it’s coming out this year.

The Shrouds by David Cronenberg. Hearing a lot of great things from some of my fav critics who saw it at festivals last year calling it a masterpiece. Some saying it’s Vincent Cassel's best performance essentially playing a version of Cronenberg. Note: I would’ve said PTAs movie but it’s been delayed till 2026 unfortunately

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is my most anticipated film of the year. Considering it was supposed to be filmed back to back with Dead Reckoning, I’m interested to see how they resolve everything (ie does the entity get exposed, does Ethan and his team make it out alive, does IMF continue, is this the end of the series, etc.). Aside from that, there’s Benny Safdie’s latest, The Smashing Machine about MMA fighter Mark Kerr. I’ll be interested to see what kind of performance comes from Dwayne Johnson in that film. He’s a decent actor. Hopefully, Benny can bring out something different in his performance for this one. I’m sure the script will be great. And, of course, I’m interested to see how they handle Happy Gilmore 2. Will it be a fan service film that becomes an instant classic, or a fan service film that no one likes because it’s too conventional for a sequel and is just another Sandler sillyfest. We’ll see.

The Brutalist! Some of us still have to wait another month. Otherwise, the PTA movie, Alpha, No Other Choice, Bugonia, The Running Man

A tie between Sinners and Predator: Badlands

Well obviously, FREAKIER FRIDAY! 😂 jk!! But not kidding. I will watch. Lol. But in terms of most anticipated, so many to choose from!! For sure, 28 Years Later, Bugonia, and the Michael Jackson biopic. Normally biopics feel the same, but this one has me quite curious. 👀

I'm looking forward to Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein very much. I loved The Shape of Water, Devil's Backbone, and Pan's Labyrinth. I am disappointed, though, that it will be released on Netflix instead of having a theatrical release.

Definitely Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film. Budget of $100+ million and will be given an IMAX release which I’m extremely impressed a studio would even finance considering his movies have never necessarily been box office hits. I’ve personally never had a chance to see one of his films in theaters so the idea of seeing one on a massive IMAX screen just sounds like a cinephiles wet dream. There’s also Julia Ducournau’s new film Alpha that I believe is coming out in 2025. As a massive fan of Titane and Raw, I cannot wait to see what new transgressive film she has cooked up for us. Looking to be a great year of film!
