(If he reads this) When it comes to snakes aspen isn't considered the best substrate anymore, using reptile soil is generally better since it holds moisture well to keep the humidity right and it's less likely to go mouldy like the aspen so it wouldn't need changing anywhere near as often, especially if you go bio-active with springtails and such that eat fungus; I made the switch and it's fantastic.
