The Patreon Podcast - Episode 128 - I Forgot About ITV

I will say, the only YouTube shorts I like are things that actually make sense for a 30s video. Cracking the Cryptic do great YouTube shorts that are concise and succinct explanations of a sudoku technique. Some chess channels will do a 30s video showing off a cool tactic. Like a small thing that doesn't warrant a full video, but it teaches you something fun, interesting and new. If that becomes YouTube's main platform for content I think it's gonna completely ruin what makes the platform fun to be on. I'll end up being stuck watching 19 hour VoD's on Twitch just to actually get some long form content, until they pivot to microstreaming where you go live for 1 minute per day.

Dan, hearing you talk about biden and the bbc sounds incredibly (not sure of the best word but) Naïve . As a white cishet liberal you do not see the extent to the damage that they are continuing to do. For instance Biden recently approved further bombing of Somalia, and the BBC have shown absolutely no regard for change. It's honestly a little frustrating to see you get so close to the point and then deflect, because the issues are less in the public eye. The reason it looks like biden is doing well is because it benefits neoliberal media for him to do so currently. Exactly the same with the BBC.

Skeptoid Podcast is a good one, he explains urban legends, quack treatments etc. But not in a 'gotcha' kind of way. Also Dan you mentioned that you thought 'We don't talk about Bruno' wasn't the best Encanto song, so which one is your favourite? (Mine is Surface Pressure)

not entirely the same thing but no bad ideas is fun - 3 writerfolk turn some crazy news article into a story. longer episodes / episodes with guests have just regular conversations as well

I appriciate that the joke he described wanting for wrestling is one he made himself on his first video with Jon where Jon was edited into the classic "and flap!" Clip

Yes, I'm an ident fan :D ITV's idents are currently (mostly) nice art pieces - no idea what they put on DVDs though (don't think they release many things on DVD anyway, they just tend to boxset them on their OD service). I watch a lot of ITV daytime but that's because there's nothing else on and I'm sad. I do agree with what you said about the BBC - I think most of the issues people have with it would be solved by disbanding BBC News, although again that's not to say BBC News is all awful. Also, Cathphrase, Supermarket Sweep, Play Your Cards Right and Family Fortunes are all ITV shows, and Dan has at least referenced them before. I've only ever watched YT Shorts by accident - never appealed to me.

youtube shorts and tiktok are horribly mindless addicting content. i deleted the youtube app from my phone to stop watching them and just watch youtube through the browser and it helps a bit!
