A Farewell from Matt

As some of you have heard already, I’ve been made redundant from Nerd Cubed Ltd. I’m not going to pretend that I’m happy with the decision, but I do understand it and have accepted it. While my ‘official’ end date is December 4th, basically all of the elements of my job have already been handed over to Daniel and Rebecca (aside from the Jan 24 prints that I’ll be shipping soon).
I’ve been thinking a lot about how to write a proper goodbye, I’ve been a part of Nerd³ for over ten years now (and several more if we include my early Reddit and Minecraft server era). It’s been the privilege of my life to do this job; I’ve had the joy of working with people I love whom became my extended family, meeting and working with immensely interesting talented people, and of course the incredibly varied and colourful canvas that is you lot. I very sincerely wish Daniel and Rebecca the best for the future, and hope that everything gets easier and less stressful.
I’m not entirely sure what I’ll be doing next, I was aiming (and optimistically expecting) to do this job for the rest of my life. For the time being I’m trying to build up my independent creative outlets on Twitch and YouTube, and then by mid December I’ll have to assess if it’s viable going forward. I’m hoping it can at least be a part-time job for me if nothing else, I’d rather not lose everything I’ve built up over 15 years if I can at all avoid it.
Now, I hope you’ll all excuse me for the first (and last) time as I partake in some shameless self-promotion! I’ll be trying to stream on Twitch as regularly as I can, as an in I’ll be doing a special big stream tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am UTC in which I’ll be mostly playing WatchDogs Legion. I can’t be entirely sure, but I think I’d say that Dan is probably going to do a series with Matt in the near future to provide Matt with some exposure. If that were the case, then realistically the Podcats will likely continue.

I do sincerely hope that there is no bad blood between you and Dan. We are here to support your endeavors going forward and I hope this change does not spell your complete disengagement with this community that cherishes you so. Apologies if I’ve spoken out of turn, but having grown up with this community, it feels important to voice these concerns…

I think you've done tremendous work Matt and that it's a huge loss to see you be made redundant from Nerd³. I hope this change ends up being for the best for everyone, but who knows. Did you ever consider branching out into some type of consultancy work? Like helping other creators with growing their communities, or making corporate videos more engaging, so many ways to put great skills to good elsewhere. That way you could be your own boss and would hopefully complement streaming and whatever else you wish to do! Good luck Matt. Go n-éirí an bóthar leat!
