The Patreon Podcast - Episode 196 - We Watched Films!

Hello!

In today's podcast we talk about films, what the next stage of Nerd³ looks like, and that thing that Rebecca just did that freaked me out...

Enjoy!

Daniel xx

PS. Apparently Patreon now has a "Podcast" section to upload to, as well as the usual "Audio" one, so I've bumped the podcast over to it! If everything breaks, please let me know!

Having two smaller periods of sleep is actually very natural for humans. Lots of old books have the characters have first and second sleeps.

Did you guys see Everything Everywhere All at Once? I think you'd love it...I think.

Might I reccomend Wakfu as a show to try out? It's a solid, well animated show that ages with its protagonist, beginning as a fairly formulaic kids show in the first season and dealing with the ramifications of all the main character has been thru in later seasons. The most recent arcs are about stopping a plot to kill the gods, instigated by the gods neglect of the world they're supposed to be watching over. It's very solid over all despite some rough patches here and there

They're currently filming the sequel to running man on my street. I think it might be straight to streaming, it's going to be so terrible....I can't wait.

I do love hearing that the part that takes Dan out of Die Hard is where he jumps and is somehow able to grab the ledge of the vent in the lift shaft or whatever. I love it because this is exactly what DadCubed said in an episode of father and son days (one of the ones with the full map case capture the flag game, I think).

Eric Dapp

Also I bet Rebecca would love the Ferret stream, the channel is FerretSoftware.

Hi Dan and Rebecca! I work from home and pretty much have twitch on in the background all day, so I can at least shed some light on the twitch ad stuff. Essentially, I don't think it would effect you. There's been some political drama around big streamers recently and as a result there's been people seeing a reduction in Ad money. It turns out it's a result of people having political/sexual stuff in their stream tags, since twitch has been forced to actually do something. They don't normally have targetted ads, and apparently this is how they've decided to do it despite tags being used for jokes a lot of the time. Pirate Software wrote a tweet about it, and mentioned it was too long for bluesky so couldn't put it there. He runs a ferret rescue and it's income comes mostly from twitch ads on the Ferret channel, and he's seen zero reduction in ad revenue.

If you want swampy marshland, look at the Fens. There was a documentary series on BBC 2 a few days ago narrated by Toby Jones about the nature of the Fens/Fenland. In the east of England, very easy to hideaway in the middle of nowhere (I do) and only really small towns and cities like Ely nearby. With London and Essex easy to get to and Newcastle is just a few hours direct train from Peterborough. Downsides: quite Tory. Less so atm, but generally more conservative leaning.

thank you for removing the music from the toys videos! and i definitely recommend agatha all along, it’s a good ol’ time

xjxsephxinsanityx

I'm so happy to find somone who feels the same way about the cornet trilogy as me

Jack Cann

I forgot squash was a drink and was really confused for a while about why they covered a gourd in glitter and jammed a wicked tag into it. Wishing your healing the best when you move! What a horrible journey it's been, I'm so sorry you had to deal with such unashamed cunts

Luka Morgan

As you have Disney plus can i recommend to Rebecca watching The Great North. It’s from the makers of Bobs Burgers and stars Nick Offerman as the dad and Alannis Morrisette as a constellation of Alannis Morrisette in the northern sky. I’m only 3 episodes in at the time of writing this but you’ll love it.

LukeSeawalker

I would 100% recommend Mad God to Rebecca - it was a passion project that took the creator 30 years to make Gory, dark and well animated - deffo worth a watch if you can

AFATMANONICE

A J20 glitterberry is a Christmas staple in my household, we get a 4 pack as a christmas present

Regarding overstimulating things in videos, I've gotten into the habit of setting my audio to mono for the Toys ones (except today’s) cause I couldn't deal with all the sound being in one ear only, definitely would be nice to try adjusting the stereo balance and width if others have this issue as well. Also can I just say, I low-key love how foul-mothed Rebecca has gotten in these podcasts compared to 2016 three years ago, it still sounds so hilariously unexpected somehow

ICE Trance

I know you're going to be moving Mr Dalek out of the house so that your house isn't recognisable, but I just saw a video of someone who's family have a Christmas Dalek instead of a Christmas tree and ngl I think it's a fantastic idea and I highly recommend you do the same!

Lauren Clarke

I hope you guys find something you love that suits your needs as soon as possible! All else fails, New Zealand would love to have you!

On finances: I suspect you've already thought of and know this but JUST IN CASE you haven't: - Do Double-Entry Bookkeeping and keep things balanced. - Use some accounting software to aide you (if you're good with local/offline software, then GnuCash is pretty OK) - Three important questions to answer, and how to answer them: 1. Has/will the business got/have enough money to keep going for the immediate/foreseeable future? Answer: Cash-flow statement & forecast. 2. Is the business profitable and, assuming it is, can we maintain/improve that? Answer: Profit/Loss Statement (and forecast) 3. What is the value of the business now, will that be maintained/improved, and where, if any, is the debt risk? Answer: The Balance Sheet (with underlying assumptions and expectations) All the above solutions require data, assumptions, research, guesses - more or less so depending on how complex your finances are (loans, debts, assets, interest rates, etc.) When bookkeeping the finances, you're typically "booking" things in 4 ways: Bank book (money in/out of cash bank accounts), Purchase Ledger (records of purchases), Sales ledger (records of sales), Asset register (stuff purchased that are an asset of the business) Again... accounting software helps with all of this, plus some reading about these different concepts. Source: My dad (a retired business manager & consultant and wizard in the arts of accounting and big fan of the Winnie the Pooh books) gave me a crash course in accounting a few years ago. Also I work as a Software Engineer for a savings & investment bank - though that's a different sort of banking, so actually less relevant here. Apologies if I just explained a bunch of stuff you already know - hope the numbers & graphing is fun!

A movie that does something stupid that takes me out of it is Die Hard 2. Putting aside the planes not just diverting, I always found it ridiculous how the plane that crashes, despite being almost out of fuel, goes up in a huge fireball. As for a 'bad' movie that I still like, it has to be Digimon The Movie

Narmatonia

My finances: I'm really sensible and managed with finances but with poor impulse control

NerdyMrFox

That's such a fun idea!

Mr Rebecca

I have my earbuds in at almost max volume at the dentist as I've found it help and actually makes it less painful as I cannot hear the drill as much (still get vibrations) I also hate the numbing stuff so I will try and go with it.

NerdyMrFox

reccomendation for a flim you might enjoy Bill it has horrible histories actors in and you can get an idea just from that its a comedic telling of shakespear becoming a playwright and its really funny also on Horrible Histories actors watch the tv show GHOSTS!, thats great aswell both are on BBC iplayer

Nathan (Mixter_Chestnut)

I would love to see a toys video where you show off some of your favorite or coolest dvds.

Milz Bowden

I also wanted to wish you both all the best for finding the next NerdCubed residence and all the best for the future Xx

Emma Goodall

I am so happy that Rebecca loves Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps! It's a great TV programme. I recommend Will and Ralf should know better where they go around the country trying out crazy things. A TV series I would recommend is Ash Vs Evil Dead if you haven't already seen it, it's gorey, funny and got great characters in it. If you fancy something different film wise I recommend Rocky I-III I haven't watched past Rocky III but I loved these three films, my boyfriend recommended i watch them and at first i was like no because i am not into boxing but boxing is a small part of the film and it's got a great story behind it and great characters.

Emma Goodall

On the one hand, I definitely understand clearing your stuff so it's not identifiable. On the other hand, the concept of seeing a Dalek in someone's Rightmove listing absolutely delights me. (Best of luck with the search for a new place, I hope you find everything you want at a cheap price - but not at such a cheap price that it's suspicious!)

screechfox

Based on that, you're making the sky unclear, murky, reducing the light in the world, etc.

Craig (CraigUntlNytTym) Penfold

Based on Rebecca’s love of accountant work and the comment on then becoming a serial killer, they would definitely love ‘The Accountant’

Texta 217

Daniel’s Scheduled life would be dystopian for anyone but him

Daddy Driffill

Or seeds because then you’re cloud seeding and you can keep the cum jokes

Daddy Driffill

Rebecca, Ghouls, not to kinkshame but… what the fuck?! Explain yourself

Daddy Driffill

I need you on Letterboxd, Rebecca, because hearing your thoughts on films makes me smile. And to truly see how many repeats you do watch.

Nathan Kirby

ON BLUESKY THEY SHOULD BE CALLED CLOUDS! BECAUSE YOU'RE PUTTING CLOUDS INTO THE BLUESKY!!
