Escher Alice

Dear Insane Children,

Do you ever feel like everything is upside down and turned around? Like up is down and nothing makes sense anymore? As Cheshire said,

Puurrfect. When you're not on edge, you're taking up too much space.

Because the thing about life is that it's neither safe nor certain. And when we try too hard to organize and control things we only create suffering for ourselves and others.

So embrace a little Chaos. And climb that mountain... even if you've got to get down to go up. Or sideways with some serious twisting!

The latest illustration from Omri renders these notions in a riot of madness and rich details. Wonderful!

I think we might call this print "Escher Alice" ... what do you think?

Live Stream This Week

As many of you are aware, we're running a joint Art Contest with the team at Mantacore. And this week's live stream will be a special joint-stream where we're joined by Jordan Maynard from Mantacore. He'll walk us through the design/creation process in Core. And we'll review some of the Asylum entries sent in from the public. We'll also talk about Alice, Asylum, and my thoughts on game development and design.

It's around our usual time - 6PM PDT on Wednesday, May 13th (9AM on Thursday her in Shanghai).

This will happen via the CoreLive channel on Twitch. You can follow that page on Twitch via THIS LINK

We do hope all the Insane Children will join us for the fun!

Asylum Snow Globe

Now that things in China are relatively normal - meaning we can travel by train to nearby provinces without too much drama - Yan and I are planning a trip to YiWu next week. There we'll check out factory options for a custom-made Asylum Snow Globe.

I will probably make a travel vlog about that trip so that you can see where we go, what kinds of snow globes are on offer, etc. Is that something everyone would be interested in?

Tea Sets - on a related note, I know several Insane Children have been lobbying for an Alice Tea Set. We'll keep our eyes open for something... but I want to warn that a tea set will very likely break several of the rules we have with regards to the stuff we make and ship. The first issue will be weight - anything over 1kg is really expensive to ship these days. And the second issue will be fragility - which is kinda related to weight... to pack a tea set (and all that implies) in such a way as to avoid damage would mean LOTS of extra packing and padding. Anyway... like I said, we'll keep an eye out.

Stuff For This Week

I am still trying to get caught up on packing and sending things. Only 50 orders left in the system now. Omri and Dario are starting work on The Moon (character and level design), so expect to see some interesting renders of that soon. And the rest of the team continues to work on characters, weapons, and locations. More art coming soon!

I need a Snowgloab , too :) Would be coming it in your mysterous shop? :) I have a really amazing wonderland appartment, a Snow Globe would be sooooo perfekt. ..............A snow globe is like our world and yet not. Maybe because it looks like frozen or in a soap bubble so nothing can change because everything is trapped in it. Nevertheless, it is almost as if the fascination stems from the fact that, if you look at it, you can look at everything more objectively ... which stimulates our imagination ... and awakens stories and ideas in us that tell so many stories It almost feels like the world in this little sphere is more ready, has more options than what it actually represents: just a picture of our reality. This is why a snow globe is so fascinating even for the smallest children: it works like Alice's Wonderland, but in the end it is a bubble of reality, like a snow globe. But this room offers so many ideas for possibilities ... It seems so limited and self-contained, but that can only confirm or reinforce the boundlessness in it, trigger it to conjure up even more stories and ideas ... exactly because you are within your limits. You start something that you do to them. Because you are aware of them. It's not like in reality, where so many feelings and problems often make you hesitate. In such a small ball, a soap bubble or the space of a wonderland in a round head ... so little can be made of so much.

A fake tea set could work or some suggestions above

I NEED A SNOW GLOBE. What about individual pieces of the tea set as separate rewards over a period of time? IDK if that is more complicated to produce than a whole set, but it would be cheaper/safer to ship. I know I'd rather have it in pieces so I'd only end up with one broken piece instead of an entire broken set.

Hi sweet Lucky !!!!!

Stay safe traveling and always

Miniature tea sets are awesome - Could be different styles, and Collections - would love this notion !!! So, so very exciting - What time for the stream on EST ??? Keep us updated on the trip !!

I love everyone's enthusiasm for a tea set with so many suggestions. Also, travel Vlog YES PLEASE! P.S. If you want to watch the LiveStream this week, here's the non-mobile link: https://www.twitch.tv/corelive

Love it!

I think a normal tee set is an option. You can use opal-glas what is not so fragile and if a set are only a teapot for two cups, two cups and two saucer it will be also under 1kg. A real nice set I would order.

Miniature doll-sized tea sets seems like a good compromise when it comes to shipping they would weigh less and also be easier to safely pack. As a bonus it'd look great having them sized so the plushies can have a tea party

Feelin' the snow globe love, here. As for a tea set that won't break banks or scales, I would cast a vote for painted tin. Construction could be like a kid's set, but with an Asylum paint job. Very light for shipping.

Lacquered wood would be pretty sweet, and they could etch/paint/burn all manner of designs into them.

HATTER'S DOMAIN from Madness Returns snow globe! Omg..it would be GORGEOUS! πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ–€

Also, yes i am interested in the idea of a snow globe

Laura Fowler

I love that snow globe! Also, I would gladly pay more for a tea set so that it could be shipped safely. GLADLY

We'll have a look around. Doing the set in a light metal could work.

American McGee

I would go almost sane over a tea set. Would an aluminum one be possible? I don't know the feasibility, but maybe? Or even a plastic one, as long as it's shaped cutely, I'm good!

Or small cups like a sake set. For sipping tea

Laura Fowler

Like those brass mugs you can get at Renaissance fairs and refill them for a fraction of the cost later. I seem to wanna think those cups were kinda light?? Could be done in a steam punk hatter type motif

Laura Fowler

Can't wait to the see the snow globes.

Love this new piece from Omri! I'd love to see a travel vlog and I can't wait to see if snow globes can happen! I'm excited about the possibility of a tea set as well, though you're very right about the shipping costs, as well as the price of the product itself.

Wendy Jaa

Ok but hear me out. Do the tea sets have to be ceramic? Is there a lighter material that could be used that ties back into Alice's world?

Laura Fowler

This is sweet

Onion Knight

I love seeing all the art & concept designs for this game!
