Shadowonderland

Dear Insane Children,

What happens to Wonderland when Shadow Alice takes over?

Before.

After.

Welcome to Shadowonderland! Shadow Wonderland? Shadowland? I dunno... we need a name. Help me come up with a name!

Anyway, this is the place we're going after Alice escapes from Snowglobe Wonderland. She'll arrive in Real Wonderland - only it's all shadow-a-fied. Like if you ask Robert Smith from The Cure to take over the interior design...

Anyway, you get the idea.

Omri just started working on these concepts so he'll be mad that I shared them so early. But that's what Crowd Design is all about. Right?

Anyway, fun stuff to discuss on the Live Stream this week!

It'll be a the usual time and place. YouTube and Twitch.

Hope we'll see you there!

Other Land?

How about Asunderland? As in something being torn asunder

Wow! I'm so glad everyone likes the Name! I really hope that it gets used 🥺

Count me in on "Umbraland" too!

love this!

How about "Adumbrated Wonderland". I like the word "adumbrate"; it isn't used enough, in my opinion. (Also, Underland is what they call Wonderland in that not-so-good Tim Burton movie)

I actually think Underland is great. It seems to pertain to the unconscious, and would be to land what underwater is to water: a place of great mystery and shadowy movement. Also, the original Alice story was entitled Alice's Adventures Under Ground, though that could be an equally good reason for steering well clear

I like Shadowland. I also thought of "Shunderland" which touches on the jabberwock poem a bit. I also like the name having a "sh" sound to the beginning of it, as if telling you from the get that it's a place one shouldn't speak of or that it isn't spoken of in "polite" conversation. Also just thought of "Shudderland"

Sarah Heist

i feel like "Dismaland" might be a good opposite to wonderland. or perhaps "underland" like un-london the un prefix replacing the won in wonder, under also implying hell...

I'm on the "Umbraland" bandwagon, easily remembered and has a great ring to it

This! Also... "Darkerland"? XD

The word "Erebus" comes to mind for me. In Greek mythology, Erebus is heralded as a primordial diety quite literally of deep darkness, or shadow. The word can actually be used as a descriptor for both as well, and it's meaning was first recorded as "place of darkness between earth and Hades" Fun side note also, he's been identified in a very very old poem as being one of the first five beings in existence, born of chaos itself. ... Not that any of that is likely of consequence, it just.. Sounds nifty on the tongue, and I'm a fount of useless information. <<;; It's too late for me to be intelligent, so I just babble. >>;

"Umbraland" or "Emberland" Definitely has a more satisfying sound to it then "Shadowland" or "shadowonderland"

Yeah! It really works! Umbraland for the win lol

That is really good actually. Count me in on the Umbraland train. We definitely don't want to call it Underland CK. That's what they called it in the Burton film.

The images remind me of burning embers, which fits incredibly well. Austin Cook beat me to the comment, but I also like Umbraland, alternatively Emberland or the Ashlands; though Shadowland does work, even The Shadow Realm but that is probably already taken. I also feel like there might be a name in reference to black mirrors (Claude Glass) but I can’t think of a good one. An interesting name for people in the area might be The Shadow Caste, especially if they are in servitude to Shalice; or The Tainted or Tarnished for those infected/affected by her tar-like tentacles (if that is an element outside of the art). I’ll also include The Stagnation for an area that doesn’t change, but that is just because it made me laugh when my mind came up with it (I’d imagine it being populated by bachelors or deer... or both).

How about just referring to it as “The Shadowlands”.

GLAD YOU AGREE!

I kept thinking Underland but this is so much better!

Stephanie Groth

WE COULD CALL IT "Umbraland" (umbra) being the alternative word for shadow and darkness! I think it has a nice ring to it! It just sort of popped into my head last minute!

I do actually love that idea quite alot

It's actually kinda funny. The way I described Wonderland in that script is almost exactly what these images show.

Lucky Dragon ‘She.They’

Shadowland is fine I think. It may be taken, but it's not something you can copyright. So it's fair game. Might not be the most original of names, but for something like this, I don't think it needs to be. It should just be catchy and easily remembered. My ideas about Wonderland and the state it is in is briefly touched upon in the opening script I gave you. But, basically what I’ve been thinking is this. Adult Alice has tried cutting herself off from Wonderland. As result, it has started to deteriorate and decay. The denizens are in a death-like state, all skeletal. This creates an opportunity for Shadow Alice to take over. And the enemies can be zombified versions of Wonderland characters.

Lucky Dragon ‘She.They’

Perhaps we could just simplify it and call it "Shadowland" speaking of! I do love that we are revisting Skool! I definitely hope that we get to see the land of fire and brimstone! And some other branching areas! This has been so much fun! Seeing all of these gorgeous redone versions of our favorite areas!
