Lost In Umbraland

Dear Insane Children,

Normally we'd have a Live Stream tomorrow at the usual time - we try to host them every other week. But I'd like to request that we skip this one. Why? Well, Yan is taking Lucky and Grandma on a short trip to nearby Suzhou. Martin is apartment hunting. And I am deep in Umbraland, sorting out the ending of the story for Alice: Asylum. If we skip the Live Stream tomorrow it means I can have a day on my own (alone!) to focus on writing. And Martin can continue his search for the next Font Manor.

So... no live stream tomorrow!

But we will be back next week on the 24th (23rd in the USA).

In the meantime, our art team continues to crank out beautiful illustrations for the scenes we're writing. The latest from Omri (main image, above) shows The Vale of Tears under the influence of Shadow Alice (Umbraland).

Adam is working on an illustration capturing the moment Alice pushes Bumby under the train. This will be relived in the Memory Mines by Child Alice. It's obviously a critical scene so there was a bit of discussion about which variation might be best...

Let us know in the comments which is your favorite - A? B? C? or D?

And Joey is working on The Memory Tree - an important location in the Vale of Tears where all of Alice's imagination springs forth.

We can review all of this stuff - and maybe even have a narrative overview for review - when we do the next live stream. Yay!

Oh...

Shy Rabbit was launched over in the Mysterious Shop for those of you interested in her.

You can check her out HERE

Jen and Yan are doing some really fun stuff for the upcoming Plushie Dreadfuls. Will share their design ideas soon.

In order of preference: B, D, and then C.

all of the image are really cool but i think i prefer C.

I like C for it's composition, but I think it's not dramatic enough. I'd like to see that when Alice makes her push, the background of London starts to transferring into wonderland. Maybe those four are still not "wonderland enough" for me.

This is getting me very excited for the narrative! And I think D is looking pretty good too

I like the perspective of A but I agree, I think D works as it looks more personal, though I prefer her leg stance in B and C. I’d also be interested to see a “moody” or sinister glow caste by the train onto the environment including the figures and the train's plumes of smoke. The memory tree’s trunk looks really interesting. The significance of the memory tree narratively reminds me of the tree from Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, which is a game that emotionally wrecked me, so I’m looking forward to seeing how this one affects me in game. I’m also looking forward to seeing the culmination of all the narrative work you've all done as well.

Just weighing in here everyone, I also thought D was the best composition for showcasing the characters and the emotional weight for the scene. We were tossing up between C & D in the threads, and I feel either way will be magic once Omri and Adam are done with it. Always interesting to see your feedback, keep it coming here. Also, personally, I can't wait for you to experience the story concept we've got lined up for you. I am feeling equally excited / terrified to share it with you all here, so please give American some props and support while he's deep diving into tying up some bits and pieces in the narrative outline. I've tagged out of progressing the story on the current pass until its ready, and American is now tagged in. I just had a quick glance at what American is working on in the writing document, and I'm VERY excited to see your reactions to the potential end-game content when its ready <3 Hope you're all well and safe you crazy people, catch you all soon!

I like the smoke skull in D and it focuses on the scene best

D. It's an accurate picture of what happened with some added "dream" type elements added, like the skull in the smoke/steam
