Art Calendar - Crowd Design

Dear Insane Children,

We have the First Draft sample layout of the Asylum Art Calendar from Alex. It's looking good!

A couple of questions for YOU to answer in Crowd Design:

1. Do you want us to include highlights on dates related to holidays, etc? This is a bit of a problem question for us since not all of our Insane Children share the same holidays. It's true that the majority (70%) of our Insane Children are in the USA but we don't want to force "Freedom Ain't Free Day" on everyone else, so...

1(a)... an idea I had just now... maybe we include highlights on dates that are important to our Alice? Birthday, The Fire, Asylum Day, 1st Game Start, 2nd Game Start, and some other important dates from the Case Book?

2. What do you think about Moon Phases being included? This is pretty universal and it links to our passion for alchemy. So I think this one is interesting and relevant. What do you think?

3. Your reactions and suggestions for improvements to the general layout and other information currently contained on the page?

4. In case you need a Little Light in your day today, here's a picture of Lucky Nom-Noming some dumplings Yan made for him. Nom nom. Yum.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday (or weekend depending on where you are).

Love from Shanghai,

-American (and Yan, Lucky, Lulu)

Definitely my favorite photo. I wish I had an art piece of this on my wall.❤️🖤

Un, no. Maybe it’s standard in America, but I live in Russia, and here weeks start on Monday. Same for Europe, I think. And also the usual date format is dd.mm.yyyy as opposed to mm/dd/yyyy Then again, maybe they can make two versions.

Yes to moonphases and Alice dates I love that idea

thed4rkestrose

Omg i Love The Layout 😍😍😍 The Idea with moonphases and Alice important dates 💗sooo great! I really excited of The calendar ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Important Alice Dates and Moon Phases sound awesome

I agree & support the Moon phases additions

I support moon phases and important Alice dates, would love to have one on my wall 😍

I love the idea of adding the the moon phases and the Alice "holidays" or important dates. I think trying to incorporate a number of other holidays would make the calendar too busy, honestly. Not to mention, figuring out how to incorporate so many in one place. I was also quite curious if the parchment look (which I love BTW) is fading out into no background like you tend to see in Photoshop when you erase something. Personally, I like the way it looks with the checkered pattern. Oh goodness, I hope I'm making sense. Anyways, I think everything is coming out beautifully thus far.

Moon phases and Alice dates. Why not add something we can all celebrate This is the day of...like international donut day. Make it fun if you want to add things to celebrate and reminder to all what we can get a discount on or free that day. International comic book day...important for some, learn something new about the day you are living in.

Moon phase are a definite, and I like the sticker idea! Add stickers so we can put our own holidays in

This might add to the cost but what about holiday themed stickers this way people can place it on their respective holidays? There could be Alice holding a pumpkin, standing beside a burnt christmas tree etc.

I agree with the others. I don't have anything else to add except it's amazing how fast Lucky is growing! He's so adorable. I always love when you include him in the posts.

Amy Gauna

Moon phases, soltices, and equinoxes are all I would like. But I'll be fine with whatever you decide.

I am so excited for the calendar!!! Suggestions are great! Would love the Alice dates and moon phases. Default for many calendars sold in Ireland are UK holidays which are NOT thel same. It annoys me and they are more aligned than the US ones. 😄

A big YES to 1(a) and 2. Alice dates would be a much better way to go. Would be like our own little celebration/mourning dates, just between the insane children. Layout looks perfect as it is. Wouldn't change a thing.

Alice dates and moon phases is a fab idea and much better than the holiday dates when we are fairly global. Love the way it looks. Oh and Lucky is adorable with his dumplings!

Looks fantastic! Alex did a great job. I like the Alice days idea. With so many insane children in different countries, it seems like the best choice is to leave out holidays.

Drucilla Shultz

Love the calendar!!! I think moon phases and Alice dates are the way to go. I will keep my electronic calendar for holidays and important dates. I just want to look at this everyday!!!

The design and layout is perfect as it is. The Monday to Sunday layout looks great, please don't change it! I love the contrast between the weekend and weekdays and absolutely love the bloodied days of the previous month. Moon phases would be a nice touch but no holidays. Your audience is so widespread and if the calendar is biased towards a particular country's holidays, it could deter people from purchasing. Just wondering if adding Alice dates mean that it crosses the line into "official merchandise" territory?!

Raise Grog glass

I love the idea of Alice's days and moon phases. I already have the major US holidays covered in Google calendar, my work Outlook calendar, memory, etc. I really would not need those on this calendar.

I really like the moon phases idea. That would be pretty cool.

Yes to Alice dates and moon phases!

I personally don't celebrate any holiday (except Hallows eve) other than that i love the idea of events that are important to alice. Moon phases would be a nice touch to it too.

Angelina Garcia

I would also add that if you don't put the days of the week the calendar could be used any year, with maybe an extra page for 29th February, that people can ignore when it isn't relevant (the page would need to identify what years it is relevant). Of course, none of this would be in your interest if you plan to do a new calendar every year but would be if you don't

Public holidays very much unnecessary in my opinion, and moon phases a great idea. I would also add a wish to see the signs of the relative zodiac for each day

I know other countries do the mon-sun thing but in the US its confusing for me. Idk how much work it would be but could you do 2 options? One with sun-sat and mon-sun?. Other than that, i love the idea of doing all sorts off events and holidays on it even moon phases

Oh and if you do holidays, please include Pastafarianism holidays ;-P. That sould be every important day :-D.

Love how the calendar looks!!! I like the idea of moon phases and Alice dates!

Sarah McKeegan

Alice Dates and moon phases sounds great. General layout I would would prefer bigger pictures and less space for every day, next to nobody will write anything on that calendar, I guess? Week starting with monday and I know it is all about design, but better contrast for the days and dates would be helpful?

Notable Alice dates is a great, unique, and inclusive idea!

I agree with the dates pertaining to Alice and not holidays, their are normal calendars for that.

Browning Sterner

LOVE the idea of putting the Alice related days on the calendar!

I don't care about holidays, but definite yes to moon phases please!

Anna Lepper

If you go the holiday route, just do Halloween and maybe a countdown on the date of other holidays letting us know how many days it is until Halloween. You know, important information.

Alice dates and Moon phases, please!

I agree with most of the comments here, no to holidays, yes to Alice dates. I would like the calendar to keep the mon-sun layout because I live in the EU and the sun-sat layout is weird to look at for me. lol

St. Thomas

Yes to dates pertaining to Alice! There's a comment that suggests perforated pages to remove the art for framing, I TOTALLY agree with that!!

I like the idea of dates for Alice, very fitting for the calendar, perhaps some trivia about past games would be interesting too? Moon phrases is a great idea too! What about making the pages easy tear too? it allows people to frame the art and enjoy it long after the calander has been used.

1. No to holidays (too much trying to make sure holidays for all over the world are accounted for) 1a. Yes to Alice dates! 2. Yes to Moon phases! 3. Sunday - Saturday layout 4. Yes please!

Christine Phillips

Moon phases would be awesome! But not the holidays, since they aren't universal. Not sure about the Alice dates, I don't think I'd care much for those.

Moon phases yes Alice dates yes

I think scrapping our holidays for Alices is an awesome idea. Game release dates, in-game dates (birthday, anniversary of familys death in fire). It would definetely make the calendar more unique.

I don't think any high lights are necessary. Everyone can mark them for themselves. :) But moon phases wiuld be great! Also please keep it like this and don't start on Sunday!

Totally love the Alice related highlighted days and moon phases, good thinking on the making it more relative to everyone’s needs. That would be kind of weird having holidays that aren’t on the same days or celebrated at all on it for some people, not something I would have thought of. As always thanks for the cute bonus Lucky images! Always makes me smile :).

I think I like the idea of Alice specific dates on the calendar. I’m in the UK so my Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are all different to USA. Plus it’ll be really cool as a memoir to the first two games. Like when she first defeated the red queen. When she defeated the doll maker.

(or rather keep it and make sun-sat optional)

PLEASE please please do the international standard of a mon-sun layout! Also, one can always have the "big" holidays like xmas, eid, Hanukkah etc, wouldn't be as cluttered.

YES!!! 1. Moon phases HELL YEAH!! 2. Holidays national holidays only. Unless you plan to do ALL religions including Wiccan. 3. Almost all calendars are Sun-Sat where I’m from, so maybe an option with that format. 4. Let’s make this an annual tradition!!

Yes to the moon phase Yes to the Alice dates Why not have all the holidays from all over the world but that may be too much. U could also include more of the alchemy dates like when the plants go in retrograde and when that ends.

In game related dates would be awesome as well as the moon phases and I've seen suggestions for the pagan holidays but they might need to be doubled up for both southern and northern hemispheres. But what about some international holidays? (Talk like a Pirate day 😆)

1. As someone in the US, I say leave off the holiday dates. No need to exclude people or make this complicated. Most of us have phones if we really want to know a holiday date. Plus, anyone seeing this has internet access. Yet another easy way to look up days! ha 1(a). YES to Alice dates / any dates important to you or the Alice franchise. Could be interesting to see important dates from any of your other projects too. 2. Moon phases, sure why not? 3. I normally see calendars starting on Sunday, but hey my hearts not set on day placements on calendars. Not a bad format with the weekend being tucked tight together. 4. *thumbs up*

I think Alice-specific dates and moon phases are a wonderful idea. Feel free to leave out holidays, especially "Freedom Ain't Free Day".

Alice dates and the moon phases sounds great! Leaving out other holidays sounds like a good idea too.

As a witch, I'd DEFINITELY appreciate moon phases and solstices.

I like the idea of dates related to alice and yes to moon phases

Luv it! Whatever you do for the rest of your life, please never include Columbus Day on any calendar ever. Ugghhhhh Love from Texas

Denise Sury

I love seeing moon phases on my calendars personally... I agree with the suggestion of solstice and equinoxes. But as you said, not everyone lives in the US. I noticed my Zelda calendar had world wide holidays as well. But that may end up being more work!

Yes to Alice days Yes to Moon phases Suggestion: add in the pagan sabbats- imbolc, beltane, the solstices and equinoxes Maybe take a survey and see how many people are below the equator and therefore have reversed of the solstices.....

Sarah Heist

I like the idea of the dates important to to Alice, but I especially love the moon phases idea!

Mr_Bubbles_96

Also my preference would be that the week starts with Sunday as is usually standard with calendars, although maybe they do it differently in China

Lucky Dragon ‘She.They’

Omg too cute! Nomnom!!! I think it’s fine to leave off the “American holidays” I like moon phases and important Alice dates are more interesting and unique. I think we know the dates of routine holidays u don’t need to mark Christmas etc.

Therese

Definitely love the moon phases idea!

@american mcgee No, my birthday is actually in february, but I’ve seen many people in the fandom try to make her birthday a different day!

Why would it be anything different? I've shared my version of her timeline/dates before. She still has May 4th as her birthday. Let me guess... that's also your birthday?

American McGee

I think I would leave off any kind of dates, even the ones pertaining to the series. The moon phases does seem appropriate though.

Lucky Dragon ‘She.They’

Yes to all of the above

Heartlock

i like the idea of dates that are important to our alice!! and the moon phases fits too!

okay yes to adding dates important to alice but if her birthday is ANYTHING BUT MAY 4TH IM LEAVING THE FANDOM
