Getting more into 3D art and the future of this patreon

Over the past month I've been spending a lot of my time working on 3D animated content. You can see some of the results of that here, here and here.

Initially it was supposed to be just a little thing to do on the side, as I work primarily on 2D illustrations and comics, but it turned into something more and it's becoming difficult to fit it into this patreon. What I want to do is commit all of my non alfie time to 3D art, but that's quite a departure from what I've been doing here so far. And what you pay me for.

From the beginning this patreon has been about illustrations and comics. I've been pretty loose with exactly what that means to give myself freedom to explore new ideas, but it has always been more or less the same thing. Alfie as my main comic project, a secondary comic/image series, and a bunch of one off illustrations here and there.

In the next couple of weeks I would like to finish Room and Board, and then commit all of my non Alfie time into working on 3D content. Meaning building my own models for the purpose of creating stylised animations. That would significantly change my output and that's not something I feel ok doing without writing about it first.

Right now the general idea I have is to modify the tiers:

1$ would include more general updates on how the models/animations are doing.

5$ would have more polished previews of unfinished animations.

An alternative to changing this patreon, would be to start a new one dedicated entirely to 3D content, but the end result would be the same. Less non-alfie output and more 3D. It would mean more clarity but it would also force anybody who wants all of my extra content to have to pay double. I don't like that.

What do you think? My mind is pretty much made up on focusing on 3D art for the forseeable future, but how exactly I do it I am not sure. I would like to know your opinion on it.

TL;DR I want to focus on 3D content in the future, but it will come at a const of less 2D content besides Alfie. What do you think?

Comments

I feel like this would be a really fun thing to see from you, I just am going to miss the Futa comics. I hope you can work more Futa into Alfie to make up for its absence.

Shabozz

I'm in the same boat.

Freyja

The 3D looks good, take your time, it's all about the lighting too

Don

Would love to see the clips, can you post here? Not registered with twitter.

Generic

No matter what you do, I wanna support you, too :-*

Darot Games

TBH, while I’m interested to see your 3D work, I’m not particularly interested in animated content in general. It’s not that I mind you moving away from Alfie; I adore your non-Alfie work, and would love to see more of it. (I wish you would do more with your Puazi stories, personally.) And I’m interested to see what you come up with in the 3D world. It’s just that animation is not something I’m interested in with your work.

Zack benYosef

As something of an animator myself, I'm really keen to see how you translate your 2D style and use of light and colour into 3D. It's a helluva learning curve but the tools and tutorials out there now are incredible. You're a real natural storyteller as well, so I hope once you've got a handle on animation you're able to bring that aspect back into your works. Good luck!

Matt Pitt

Id like it if you kept it all in this patreon <3

Wingsfromwhere

I am fine with this choice assuming you closed the loop on any other 2D stories you already had running.

shadowscribble

I would say there isn’t really anybody out there doing the kind of 2D art you do that ticks all my boxes, and there is a lot of short clip 3D art for that. Especially your comics. But I understand you don’t really owe anybody anything and I encourage you to follow what you actually enjoy. Hopefully the comics do show you how much all of us have appreciated your 2D art though over the years!

Mika Ears

Oh no, you and Sejic have been drawn to the 3D side by the seductive allure of Zbrush and Blender. I love seeing side comics, but then I like all the comics you put out. However, I also like seeing you try out new things. As you do studies, try out new styles, and learn new techniques, your art continues to level up over the years. I look forward to seeing how your skills continue to grow. I don't see the need for a second Patreon.

Joshua Wolfe

Agree with the comments that a 2nd patreon for just 3d or reworking the tiers include 2D and 3D work. Since I started with Alfie, stayed for the side 2D you do. Because a lot of it is really good. The bits of 3D you have put out have also been good. But end of the day I'm still keen on backing your content.

Nicholas Feltner

No matter what you do, I wanna support you

Max Ocampo

Do what you enjoy. Grow.

Lee

i agree that a second patreon would probably be wise. I also agree that dropping the 2d work altogether would be a shame..lots of folks came here for alfie, the invitation, etc...3d work is a fun distraction, but it's the 2d that makes me want to pay you to actually see something. (i also miss oyu tkaing requests, even occasionally.)

straycat74

Too bad I loved your random 2D work, but an artist should do what they love doing. Personally I think you could just make 2 tiers. Tier one is for 2D content and tier two is for 2D+3D.

Goofey Disney

You should do the work that you enjoy, but I prefer your 2D work.

Jim Sharkey

As long as it does not impact Alfie I have no problem.

Matteo Manino

I joined your Patreon because I think your art is great, can't wait to see what you can do with one more dimension 💜

Leonardo Taglialegne

uncertainty moving forward? where you have taken me so far has been brilliant, I'll keep following...

mat waren

I have been supporting you for almost 8 years now. My focus has been and will continue to be "to support your creative talents". I am also both a 2D and 3D creator for a long time, so I don't mind if your creativity leans toward 3D. "New challenge" is just as interesting as "keeping going" and the interesting factor is important for creators, I guess.

hige

Agreed! I'm here because I love the artist.

Rhaelen

I've enjoyed your 3D work so far and want to see how it goes. What's kept me interested for as long as I have is that you manage to combine enjoyable, coherent plot with really sexy scenes so that those elements play off of and enhance the other. A lot of folks can draw tits, dicks, and screwing, but I've seen far fewer that do that with (comparatively) long-form narrative successfully. All that to say, I'm here for the ride, but *eventually* if all your output reflected just this 3D modeling/animation aspect of your craft, I'd get bored. Not too quickly, but *eventually*.

MW

Honestly I get wanting to follow your interests, but content-wise 2D comics will always win over 3D snippets. Unless you're looking to make short animated videos, but that's a whole 'nother level of commitment.

HazM@

Don't change the Patreon. I pay to support the artist. I don't want to control the art. If this is where your process is leading you, you have my support. You may lose subscribers, you may gain new ones. I am excited to see what's next.

Zach Brown

Excited to see you expand your skillset and create the things you want to!

Thember

I would love to see and support your 3d art

Raven

I have a friend who loves making 3d sci-fi cartoons, so I have seen the allure. I wish you luck. I hope you don't completely give up your sci-fi comic idea, though. If I remember, .your illustrations were very "Mobius meets Hal Foster."

Michael Butchin

Oh, those look great. Keep up the work - I can’t wait to see how much better you get.

Chris Waldrip

loving your 3d stuff so far! I'm just here to support your work, whatever form it takes

Syncollector

I love your 2d art but first look at your 3d art says I would love that just as much. I would be happy with Alfie + 3d art!

James G. Shelton

I support your transition. Follow your art!

CaptKaboom

I just want to make sure Alfie is finished. You've stepped up the artwork recently, it seems. I haven't been very impressed with most 3D art/porn, but if you want to go that direction, I wish you luck.

John

I've loved all your work across a variety of different stories, so I'll definitely keep sponsoring your patreon to at least see how your 3D art evolves. The samples look great so far!

RunningGentles

3d route is showing really good promise, worth doing so

aMicroPal

A while back you'd been talking about doing a non-porn (SFW) fantasy/sci-fi comic after Alfie wrapped up. Is that on hold now?

Tristan

I'm here to support your work in whatever medium. You gotta chase the thing that gets you most excited and motivated. If you don't, that's an easy way to burn out. 3D is obviously what you're excited about right now so definitely focus on that! It's pretty special to be able to follow along and see someone develop new skills in real time. I'd rather you stick to a single Patreon for all your artwork, but I'll stick around either way.

Tristan

I do not view Patreon as transactional. I'm here to support your art overall whatever you choose to do. I'd rather keep one Patreon for all your work rather than have two separate channels.

Fester's Lampshade

I'm not gonna lie: I am sorry to hear that. In any instance of an artist I love transitioning to 3D always felt like a downgrade. Although there is some 3D art I love, 2D always looked more beautiful. But I can understand the desire to try out something new and would never urge someone to keep up doing work the don't love anymore. When it comes to the Patron option, I am torn. Personally I want to have the option to back either 2D or 3D art since I usually don't do both. But I have to admit that a single account makes more sense.

Windsaw

I love your 2D art and will be sad to see less of it, but I'm super excited about the 3D animations you've posted so far and would be thrilled to see more of your work in that direction :3

Nicole LeGare

As I am not on twitter, I do not see the pictures and due to I can not decide.

W.M.S

I am fine with whatever decision you make. I chose my tier based solely upon being able to get better Alfie content (not embedded in html formatting). The other stuff has been an unexpected bonus. If that changes for some different experimental stuff, I'm fine with it. The quality of your work so far is such that I'd be pleased to see anything you tried. If you should slack off for a couple of months and just do the usual amount of Alfie, I'm also cool with that. Also, what Aaron Ward said.

JohnR

That you would so readily get into 3d art yet maintain your stylized direction but still maintain your unique style borders on a miraculous turn of events and gives me hope in this increasingly bleak reality.Shine on you crazy diamond.

Mike

Yeah, I don't think it makes any sense to assume that there are many people who are all about Incase 2D art and would throw money at it, but would back off if you go into 3D. And of course, I'm here to stick around for it, knowing full well that in the short term that means a bit less content while you're figuring things out and making a lot of your initial time investments that will pay off later.

Shogeton

Would much rather you have the freedom to work on what you want vs. only working on something because it's popular. I'd be willing to pay a bit more to see the new stuff, as well.

Ada

I'll pay more just to see 3D versions of panels from some of your old content. 3D invitation? Yes please

Buoyant Citrus

Honestly I consider my subscription back payments for all the Alfie I read, so you do what is fulfilling artistically. Edit: One Patreon is probably better to keep all your stuff together.

Aaron Ward (Vampwire)

I'd say one patreon, as long as it's clear what the rewards would be (which I'm sure it would be). Maybe suspend payments during the changeover month so that people have time to decide if they're still interested or not.

Matt

I asked this myself last month lol, stick to 1 place, people don't wanna split up their payments ^^;

Tokifuji

I'm paying you to do what calls to you as an artist. I think that splitting the patreon would be a bad idea, that would just dilute things.

Darren Stalder

I won't lie, the thing I've been wanting to see most is the third installment of The Invitation. That said, I don't think you should split off the Patreon... this is to develop your art, whatever form that takes. That said, if you decide to make some 3D eldritch horror animations, I would not complain in the slightest. 🖤💜

Dana Marks

We're literally paying you to have fun trying cool things and showing us the results :)

Stephen Wells

Makes more sense to me to keep it all here. I joined this to support your art. If you choose to work on a slightly different medium, that's fine by me. I'm excited to see how it will go!

Metaphorical

Keep it all here butt add extra tiers. I don't mind paying more. I don't like having to do it elsewhere, even if it's a different patreon account. I'm lazy like that.

Ebbelpoo

I think that the whole concept of patreon is wonderful, unless it works against an artist following their inspiration and growing. Make the change!

Sue

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i joined to support you in whatever art you put out, so

Karsent

I think whatever is most likely to keep you in the creative groove is the only way you can really go. I’m all for keeping a single patreon myself

Robin Mach

Keep this Patreon and art the art that pulls you to art. Artists grow and change, I'm here for it. Some will stay, some will go, new people will arrive, but I'd bet most of us are here for the art - whatever form inspires you.

Jason

I say keep it on this patreon <3 i would love to see you stream your 3d progress as well <3

Ryuzaki Raven

Alfie!

Kevroar

I vote no new Patreon, I'm here to pay for your content and support whatever you want to make. Can you post your 3D stuff somewhere besides Twitter though? Twitter blocks "adult content" without an account and not everyone uses the toxic cesspit that is Twitter.

Hedgebug

2D or 3D I'm just excited to see more of your creativity bloom out into the world. I'm in the one Patreon camp so I know exactly where to go for all your new stuff!

Clutch

I like what you make. It might make sense to make the terms more open so that you can make what you want without feeling like you aren't delivering on promises

Phaine Of Catz

I'm just here for your art, in whatever form, so I'm fine with just adding it here. :)

Hypnobeard

I'm still hoping to see picarto streams again!

Dare

I want you to go after your interest and thrive in that interest. I absolutely want success for you with whatever you do. I will, however, be honest and say that your 2D images/comics are a complete work of masterpieces and it will be a shame to see that slow down. I would love to see if you continue with mini comics like "The Mess" parts 1 & 2 or "Charlene: Corporate Go-Getter". They're not just sexy for the raw images, but also can have a sense of intimacy like "Room and Board" or "Spicing Things Up".

Gabriel Steele

Alf keeps going so I’m fine either way. I look forward to the 3d stuff!

Mr. Ifrit

As long as Alf keeps going, I’m ok with new stuff

Ray

Is like to see more of whatever you make, whether it's 2D or 3D. Do what inspires you

MrSpectre

Just keep them pits and pussies hairy and I'm fine with everything! :P

Cal Dersen

Here's one of the animations he posted on NewGrounds, so it should be visible w/out logging in: https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/840658?updated=1650566561

Jonathan V

No... Don't make a separate Patreon! I'm here for content u make! Doesn't have to b Alfie specific.

Daniel Lee

I have no qualms about any changes. Alfie brought me here, Alfie is why I stay, and anything else is just dressing on the cake.

Justin Cox

Im here cuz i like your art and process, and i think you should do whatever is pulling your creativity strings. I dont think you should make another patreon

Pyper Haylie

I think you should keep this Patreon and just keep posting your content here! (it's InCase, not InCase's Comics!) I'm pretty sure most of the people here is mostly interested in what you do, regardless of the media!

JustFry

I have always enjoyed the content you produce, 2D or otherwise, and followed you for sometime on social media before coming here to support you. You have always influenced my art and I find it interesting that you too are transitioning to 3D at the same time as I am. I think with the availability of programs like Blender and the continuing advancement of technology that the manner of how we express our art is about to take a large leap forward, and I am very excited to see what that is.

Justin

Love the new content! And glad if you keep it on the same account

Lucy

I was brought to your stuff because of Alfie, but I'm here to support your content and art. Do what's right for you and your art, and the fans will follow you, and new ones will come.

Aaron Crabtree

I don't have a twitter so I can't see the 3D content you linked but I'm fine with you pivoting this Patreon, keeping two doesn't make sense in my opinion. I usually prefer 2D but I am happy to support your endeavours in 3D too :)

SiberianHussy

My opinion is that it is important for artists to explore themselves and various mediums. I don't really subscribe for a *type* of content, but rather *your* content. So whatever you put out, I am happy to support.

Niamh Cinn-Dhuibh

I'm here for whatever you decide to do! I'm invested in the story for Alfie, but when that finishes, I'll still be here for that good content. :)

Meadow

I enjoy seeing the process as crazy as that is if you’re up for it. I watch the process and would love to see the thoughts behind making the 3d sculpting/rigging

Gabriel Lascano

If you're going to focus on 3d, then I wouldn't start a new patreon. Leave things as they are, and let the people decide. As for 3d work, I'd love to see the Invitation in 3d!!

Baxter Turnham

I'm here for any and all InCase content, go wild!
