GrimLewd #2 - Happy Inquisitor || version 2 ||

Here's the thing about worldbuilding in small increments. Sometimes your earlier designs end up not aligning at all with where the world ends up later down the line.

One such case was the GrimLewd #2 - Happy Inquisitor. I do really like the caption and the colors, but Inez's design was kind of boring. Not to mention the face is all sorts of goofy:

Additionally, Verakost evolved a lot in my mind since these early designs. It went from "Weird catholics" to "Crazy people obsessed with ingesting body parts of a dead god and killing anybody who points out that it's kind of cringe to do that". I needed to update the Inquisitor order a bit to fit that change.

With that in mind, time for lore:

Inquisitor Order: One of the four main powers within Verakost. Tasked with maintaining internal order and purity within the kingdom. As well as destroying any internal threat from monsters and corruption. When no monsters present themselves for exterminations, usually a peasant village will do. Inquisitors firmly believe in preventative punishments.

While the Templars control the sources of God's flesh, the Inquisitors control access to the bones. The use them to craft their weapons and burn them to make ash they mix into the ink of their tattoos giving themselves powers over fire.

Four powers: the Church, the Templars, the Inquisitors and the Noble Families. While deeply intertwined and allied against corruption, they fight internally for control over the kingdom. Each trying to secure power for themselves. Be it political, military, economic or access to divine materials.

TL;DR: Crazy fire people with hot tattoos and bone swords. Fun times for all.

Right now, I consider GrimLewd to be in an Alpha phase. I am trying things out and seeing what works. At some point in the future I'll look through all of what I have so far and trim out/change whatever doesn't fit the whole anymore. So far there isn't much I would outright get rid of, but having that option in the future makes it easier for me to try out different ideas.

Frankly, I think I wouldn't want either a painting or some wine from the redesigned version of her. I think I might not like what she puts in them.

Grendel's Stepmother

she looks super cool

Nicholas A Yoakum

LOVE the new design

MW

Giving me vibes from the latest critical role episode with Ashton

Daniel Lee

She looks like she gives great fingering and handjobs

Corwin Amber

I love a happy ending! 🀣🀣🀣🀣

As a recovering Catholic, I can confirm that the obsession with eating parts of a dead god every mass is not the most cringe thing about the faith. That said, nobody is going to complain about cool fire tats and bone swords. Definitely a step up!

Balina

Been obsessed with the power of her swagger since her first introduction - at Level 2 Winemaker, does that mean she's making simple homemade still wine?

Rufus Chamberlain

It could be cool at one point to do some time or reality shenanigans to have both versions meet each otherπŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”

Baos

I love both versions!!!

Baos

Nah, just extra steps. But it’s in keeping with the tone of it all. 🀣

β€œIt went from "Weird catholics" to "Crazy people obsessed with ingesting body parts of a dead god and killing anybody who points out that it's kind of cringe to do that".” Soooo, Catholics? Sorry, it was too easy πŸ˜„ really does sound like saying the same thing with different words though. 😁

Bowie Twombly

I think InCase is using the term "ingest" to cover a multitude of sins. Literally :)

Stephen Wells

It would work well with one of those dice size mechanics where you try to roll under your Tier to succeed at a task, with the die size depending on the difficulty - so a d4 for simple tasks that only a trainee would fail at, up to a d20 for tasks that can be challenging even for the experienced. Maybe with an exploding die mechanic (roll max = roll again and add) just to make it even riskier :) and a d100 for ridiculous god-tier worldchanging attempts that mostly fail but are very memorable when they succeed. I may be thinking too hard about this?

Stephen Wells

Three years in and my players still haven't grasped how much of the work I'm letting them do for me :)

Stephen Wells

I'm enjoying this concept far too much.

Wait, do they actually eat the god flesh? I thought they just ripped off body parts and replaced them with the god flesh. Eating makes more sense.

Thomas Sutter

Cool, better to update rather than ignore.

Thomas Sutter

its fun to imagine that its common for people very far along their Path to just naturally get so invested and obsessive with their hobbies that they manifest a class

Green Sea

I swear to the dead god, I would love to make this into a real RPG and play it

Erin

I love the idea that the first was an earlier version of the latter, but it does create the mismatch that she does appear older when less altered by it. UNLESS she was one of the lucky ones who scored a subtle de-aging as part of her corruption. It's rare, of course, no two people are affected the same, but the promise of youth could've been an unsung motivator in the early days of the four powers establishing themselves.

shadowscribble

Yeah, world building is like that. I've DMed a few dnd campaigns, and Ive always built the world during the campaign, rather than at the beginning, because I feel my players help build the world and feed me ideas

Jonathan V

Wine and paint? Live laugh love: the Inquisitor

KidNeon

Hot Bone Mommy. Gotcha!

Ignacio Segura Montero

I do like the idea that in her spare time she's really quite an aggressively terrible painter and winemaker and she never gets better at it but she's doing it for fun. In the downtime between massacres.

Stephen Wells

That's actually a neat way of thinking about it. I liked how mundane/normal her first version was - she's an ordinary person with a few hobbies who occasionally commits a war crime for her job - the second one definitely looks like she's gone further down the path. We can retcon that the first version was her as a Tier 9 Inquisitor and the new version with the fire is Tier 19 heading for 20.

Stephen Wells

I like these but miss the waifu ladies still πŸ˜”

Matthew Keating

Omg. I wanted more Inez! Neat!

BottomFeeder225

Still love both versions of Inez. The og is...pre tattoos Inez. The second one feels like...10+ years into her career as an inquisitor.

Nicholas Feltner

Way more Grimm now, especially, "if no monster presents itself, a peasant village will do."
