A bit of a quandry

I am in a bit of a quandry right now. Long story short, I am catching the animation bug again. I've spent the whole day watching Spine2D animation tutorials and it looks pretty good for my purposes. I want try getting into it, but I don't have that much free time right now.

Last time I tried to learn 3D animation/art I let scope creep ruin everything. I went from simply wanting to animate my 2d images to building, texturing and rigging my own 3d models from scratch. It was a bit much to handle while also trying to work on Alfie.

But with this I feel that I could do something great. I have an idea for a simple illustration style that would really lend itself to 2.5d animation.  I want to do it!

The reason I am writing this is because I can't jump into that while also working on Alfie and Grimlewd. Alfie is non negotiable, but GrimLewd I could suspend for a month or two to try to dip in my toes into animation again.

What do you think? Should I stick to working on GrimLewd or try animating again? Either way keeping Alfie updated is my main priority right now. So that won't change.

Let me know what you think in the comments! This poll is not really binding. I just want to know what you think.

Also there's a chance that I'll lose interest in the subject tomorrow anyway haha. This may just be me still being rattled by the move.

I am going to support what ever you wan to do. I love your work and reallllly look forward to seeing whatever you want to create appear on my screen.

Stan Forrester

Is there any reason you couldnt combine the two if they catch your fancy?

Gardeford

Wherever your heart is, do that.

jemola

I want you to do what keeps you happy. I am a huge fan of basically whatever you do. Take some time, learn how to animate.

Latissha

Do what your heart tells you to do, I will enjoy them all

Brian

Do whatever you want! I love your art and will support whatever you decide to do.

Echo Solo

Taking the time to learn animation is fine with me, maybe you'll animate some GrimLewd and Alfe scenes for us.

Mae Shaunna

Personally, I am supporting you now for the work you have already done. If you think you have an idea using animation, I will roll the dice with you on your success. The effort starts from a place of strength, a great existing body of work. You never know until you try.

lurknomore

I personally love your GrimLewd world and want to see it expanded upon, but if you wanna get into animations then i'm more than eager to see what you make

Duncan

First off, thanks for asking.

lurknomore

Do what makes you happy at the moment, if your gut says animation then do animation, If its Grim then grim! I dont feel like you need to narrow it down yourself but thats just me. Been around long enough to know that if you feel something in the moment, do it! But once again thats just me, if that dont work for you, nothing wrong with picking one path.

kaspertheghost

I feel like expanding art wise is a win/win for everyone. Animation/3d sculpting really helps with art composition

audioman3000

You're the artist. I believe in doing whatever inspires you.

Selina

Follow your passion.

Rhy

I just want you to finish that one story >.>

HazM@

Do what makes you happy and that you feel is the direction your art is heading.

Upcomingauthor

My vote is for either. I'd absolutely love to see either. Sorry if I'm just a fence sitter.

Funduffy900

Use the completed grimlewd’s to inspire your animation

S M

I understand the urge to learn new things, but I really like the GrimLewd stuff and would love to see more of it.

z

Do what gives you joy.

Peter

What would the animation be of? would it be an alfie or grimlewd animation or is it wholly unrelated. I'd definitely be fine with putting either off for a bit if instead of a 2D picture for them we got an animation for them instead. I just feel like knowing the general content idea for the animation would color what option I'd vote for.

Brandon14754

Consider looking into expanding your team, and you could get more done. πŸ˜…

Hunzo the Tumultuous

We back your Patreon so that you can do random stuff that interests you and leads to cool art, and we can feel like Renaissance nobles. Please continue :)

Stephen Wells

Let's see Alfie adapted as a complete animated series with full animation and voices! (Or just whatever strikes your fancy.)

Lee Thompson

I'd rather see GrimLewd. Animation doesn't do a whole lot for me.

bySeronita

I back your patreon because I want to see whatever you want to create! I think seeing more animation stuff would be rad as hell, especially if thats the thing thats exciting you right now

Corv Leary

Follow your passion. We're here for it.

Sevyn

Personally I'm more interested in Grimlewd. But you should *always* do what motivates you to avoid burnout.

Umbra Solaris

You should follow your muse for the best results. Few will complain about seeing new InCase animation. Though personally I would wish it was Alfie (as part of the big sendoff.

Drew Day Williams

I'm a patron of YOU. If the animating is something that gets your creative juices flowing, then I'm all for it. I do really love Grimlewd and would love to see more of it eventually. But I'd rather you follow the inspiration where it takes you.

Hannah Pate

Follow your muse!

Alyse Middleton

You’re going to learn more while motivated

MAR

I am LOVING Grimlewd but honestly following your whims is how art stays fun <3 I'm sure everyone is going to love whatever you come out with.

logan mccollough

Honestly, I just checked out the 'Library' series, and I think it's one of the hottest things you've done so far. Love the GrimLewd (the art is awesome), but for your kinky real-world stuff is my fave.

L.H.

You’re a competent enough artist that you should go with what inspires you. Looking forward to the wrap up of Allie and more Grimlewd, but I am very curious to see what you do with animation. Go with what excites you. We will follow!

Stereoscope Comics

The problem with creative minds. We’re like mayflies, flitting from one thing to the next. Maybe indulge it, see where it goes, maybe it’ll kill the urge, maybe it won’t. Worth trying perhaps.

Seb Jones

3D animation its complicated, but producing the animated film also includes the voice actors and ability to do comedic delivery, etc.. Not a simple enterprise, to be sure.

Worgen5

We adore whatever you do. Just keep us fed, and we're happy.

Skorched

I am eager to see grimlewd expanded upon. However imagining animations by you is just sooo good. Either way, I'm positive we'll be happy with the results.

SpacemanSpliff

I like how comics let you use your imagination (like reading) but trying new things will keep you interested in your art so do it!

J MD

I'm keen on seeing Alfie finished with a bang (well, lots of banging, at least). I'm okay on Grimlewd. Since the animation bug has passion and promise, I say put GL on hold a bit and see where the animation takes you. :)

Michael Steamweed

I do not like smutty 3d animation. It's uncanny!

BottomFeeder225

I don't like 3d animation

BottomFeeder225

Spine is a pretty neat tool. Just dont try to automate everything, the effects usely end up feeling unatural

Simon Bedard

If you decide to go with animation; consider focusing on the characters and finding some kind of clip background or something you can use and save yourself some time. If you find it's super easy to work with, then later you can play around with backgrounds.

Christopher Chinn

I have some limited, experience in doing 2.5D animation in blender [like this for example: https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/840658 ] I understand that it is still a crapload of work. I am excited for Spine2D because it looks like it takes all of the features I am interested in and puts them in a streamlined package. Although I also understand that I will curse these words in the future. Animation is always way more work than you expect haha

InCase

I love the Grimlewd stuff, but do what works for you. Follow your interests.

Kit H.

Animated GrimLewd. Problem solved

Dana Duarte

At this point, I would fund you making a sandwich on Livestream.

Foolish Frost

You just said you wanted to work on animation. Do it. We're acting as patrons of the arts, here. Not your boss. While we do expect you to produce SOMETHING, a lot of what you produce will be up to you. Heck, ALL your work has been good. Your stories have plots, character development, and interesting backstories, and they show you not only have artistic skill and talent but skills as a writer and world designer.

Foolish Frost

Call me crazy, but i think artists do their best work chasing what they're most passionate about! So i support building a new muscle, if it's what unlocks the most creativity right now!

Charity

Either or is fine with me. :)

Shawn K. Younkin

Just do whatever the fuck you want to do.

Sharwyn

I love you're work no matter what you do. It's great if you want to explore new avenues of creativity, but also understandable if you feel intimidated by it. I'm sure once Alfie is done you will feel freer to try new things. On a side note, I still read "The Invitation" on the regular (I love eldritch stuff) and I was wondering if you had any plans to one day revisit that story/universe with the nun character I saw your concept of.

Escafreya

I chose both. While I love grim I can't say no to someone wanting to learn new things!

Pigeon

As a warning, all of those tasks are still a part of the work flow, they are just limited to two dimensions. I am not saying you shouldn't do it, I am just making sure you understand and can set time expectations accordingly
