Youtube AI and Progress Update

Hello, my dear supporters!

I have learned that Youtube has admitted to secretly altering videos on their site with AI, without asking or informing the creators of the affected videos. You can read more in this BBC article, and I encourage you to do your own research beyond just reading the article.

As of now, Youtube has only admitted to doing this to "select Shorts." However, their lack of upfront transparency makes me uneasy. How do we know that they are not editing long-form videos and other content as well? And even if they aren't currently... when will they start?

This said, I want to let you know that I am feeling very insecure about using Youtube as a platform. For the near future, nothing will change, except that I may be a bit more choosy about what I upload there. I want to search for an alternative host for videos, but I don't know how realistic that is. I can only hope that Youtube (and Google, their owner) realize sooner than later the damage they are doing by incorporating this new AI technology without giving their users any choice in the matter.

I am also considering shifting where my scripts are hosted, possibly to somewhere like Pastebin, possibly to Proton or another service, as my trust in Google is rapidly diminishing. I will let you know if/when these changes take place.
