Did this girl as a commission for someone. Come along and see the process! ♥
Here's the sketch!

Next is to clean up with lineart!

Next we lay down the flat colors!

Next the overlay! Just pick a color you think would look cute, cool, scary, etc. Whatever mood you want! And set the layer to the overlay blend mode!

Now that we have the mood set, on to shading! ♥ I used a purple color, and set the blend mode to "multiply"! For added measure, on the edges of the shadows, I added a subtle noise brush.

Next, I got a vibrant pink and set this layer to the "pin light" blend mode. This is to give the effect that there are lights facing her, like she's onstage. I use the same noise brush for some of the light edges.

Next, we finish up the lineart! What I do now, since the colors are now laid down, I make a clipping mask and clip it to the main lineart. Then in the clipping mask layer, I use the eyedropper to capture the colors of parts and either darkened (lines against light colors) or lightened (lined against dark colors) the lines. It's time-consuming, but it definitely pays off in the end! ♥
Hope that helps at all to you guys!
Enjoy! ♥
