#AnotherWorldAppalachia Day 5: Words / Poetry / Message
Added 2020-10-05 19:53:48 +0000 UTCA poem I wrote a couple years ago, whose title is in keeping with the season. –Cam
a haunting
Our house is not so much haunted
as haunting:
the ghost of our home looming behind me,
settled heavy on my shoulders,
not a presence but an absence,
a lack like a missing limb.
I moved into the other room,
put away our photographs —
I need to change our passwords, I need to do
so much —
a million things to avoid the flinch:
the fleeting, searing touch
of hope
that all of this was just a dream,
a terrible mistake the universe will realize
if I dream the right dream
and wake
to the rightened world.

My dreams are still sometimes set in a house I haven’t lived in for over a decade. They linger sometimes...

2020-10-05 21:03:18 +0000 UTCOh, ma'am, this really resonates strongly with me today. I had to send my beloved old cat over the rainbow bridge last night, and things just don't feel right in the house today. It's a lovely poem.
