A Magical game

* * *
The two of you had sat at the table, and, following a short induction, they had explained the premise of the game of magic you were about to play. For every life you lost, your mind would slow down. You’d get a little dumber. Make more mistakes. A foolish toy.
At zero, there would be no thoughts left. Easy, you thought. If you were going to lose IQ every time you lost life, then you just needed to not get hit. Of course, they had thought about that, and brought a deck to make sure you would get hit. It had started with a Shock.
2 damage, to the face, on turn one. That was fine. By turn five, you were on ten life, watching a board of small creatures rush you over and over again. With nothing you could see to play. What luck. “Toy, do you have anything to play this turn?” They asked.
You looked at you hypnotist, confused. “I… I can’t remember.”
They laughed, sympathetically. “Oh, toy, it’s okay. It’s okay to not remember. You can just look at the nice card art, and end your turn, can’t you?”
You nodded, trying to remember the word. “Yeah, I can – I – pass.”
They smiled. One Brute Strength later, and you had lost the last of your life. And your thoughts. “Oh, toy. I’m sorry. That was kind of easy for me though. Are you sure you didn’t want to lose? I mean, I can’t blame you if you did. I know you love to lose control for me.”
