I heartily endorse the High Knob area, too; there are also many short hikes to waterfalls in the surrounding areas. And the Birch Knob observation tower (and Ralph Stanley museum) in my own hometown of Clintwood, in the neighboring county.

However, I have NOT been to Kentucky or West Virginia, so if I can check off two other states while I'm in the area for a long weekend that'd be great, especially since they're so easily accessible from where I am.

Southwest Virginia gets treated like we don’t exist by our own state enough as it is, family, without our visitors asking for recommendations in two other states.
