Story delays, personal life, and other reasons I suck at Patreon

Hey all!

I'm sure you've noticed that A Guide to Becoming a Pirate Queen is currently 3 chapters behind, and that's been something of an unfortunate trend with my writing on Patreon.

I've been doing something of a mental retrospective after finishing the last book and I'm honestly feeling somewhat overwhelmed with writing story at the moment.  It feels like I'm losing perspective with events that I still want to happen, and I need to spend some time plotting.

I had planned on plotting out this book, and editing the last, while I continued to write and release the story... Yeah, that was dumb.

In addition to that being a silly idea to begin with, I don't make nearly enough money as an author to support myself and I lost my 'day job' back in November. Plus, finding a new job in the tech industry during the holidays is something of a logistical nightmare.

Thankfully, I was able to find a new job (Which I start on Monday—Yay!), but that does mean that I'll need to spend a decent chunk of my attention on learning that for some period of time.

What does all of that mean for you, my readers on RoyalRoad, and me as an author?

Well, I am not canceling my Patreon, the story isn't ending, and I will continue to strive to go full time as an author.

I just need a moment to catch my breath, do a victory lap after finishing the last book, and make sure the story will have some sensical direction moving forward.

<--- actually important news things to read if the rest is too long --->

So, I'm going to pause Patreon payments, and after the book finishes on RoyalRoad, I'm going to put it on hiatus.

Both of these measures are just until I'm comfortable with where the story is at. If anybody wants to be refunded for your February payment shoot me a message and I'll be happy to arrange it.

Hopefully, things will be back to releasing on time by the end of the month. In the future, I think I'll be adding a pre-scheduled administration time after a book finishes. This way I have built-in time to decompress, edit, and do non-writing author-y things.

I'm still super new to this whole 'being an author' thing, and it's probably going to continue to be a bit bumpy as I learn to balance it, but I'm still very excited about the series and expanding the universe as I move forward with it!
