LIQUORISH WHISKERS - Discussion thread (spoilers allowed)

COMICREVIEW (so it's all official and stuff) Liquorish Whiskers is another excellent chapter in the great Tracy Scops Pornographic Parody Omnibus. Although drunkenness or any other form of substance abuse aren't to my particular tastes, it worked in this story for Gwen to need that extra shot of "courage," and for her to "sober up", mentally at least, when things started to get going. I love the art. The cover is a great parody of ASM 194, while being sexy at the same time. I might have left the dildo out, personally, as it doesn't feature in the story and doesn't really add much to the cover, but it's a minor point. The first panel blows me away, right out of the gate. A great POV shot, rendered perfectly, leaving me wondering if Renx used some form of reference or did it from scratch. Also a wonderful, classic way to start a Spider-Man story, but giving the reader a glimpse of the ending and then flashing back to show how Spidey got there. Telling the story from Gwen's point of view is a good choice, and her voice seems consistent with how she's portrayed in her self-titled series. As much fun as it is reading Peter's inner monologues, we can only have so many comics where he's thinking "How did this happen?" and "This feels amazing!" (although it probably would feel amazing, to be fair). The blowjob scene is beautifully illustrated too, and I always love seeing deep-throating, but what turns me on the most on that page is the way Gwen's saliva is coloured in around her mouth and Peter's dick, and it gets even better on the next page when she does a spit-take to spin around and face Felicia, and you see the spit spilling out of her mouth and flying off Peter's dick. (The reflection of Felicia in Peter's eye lens on the blowjob page is a great detail as well). "See that look on my face? That look right there?" is probably my favourite panel and dialogue in any of Tracy's comics so far. Renx just perfectly nailed the look of awkward, drunken surprise combined with getting caught with a dick in your mouth. Again, I have to wonder if reference was involved, or if she's just that amazing an artist. (Probably the latter). As always, I love how referential these pornographic parodies are to the in-continuity comics, and the references to Gwen's home universe of Earth-65, in this case, are wonderful. I'd love to see more done with her universe, or with her and the "Web Warriors", as there's a lot of potential there, but it's taking Marvel a while to really build Gwen's world and supporting cast. Although her world's Captain America seems like the kind of girl who could really dominate her. It's also nice to get any Tracy comic with Black Cat in it. Her recent appearances in Silk seem a little better, but for the last little while she's gone kinda crazy in the comics, so it's wonderful to see her just being flirty and playful and sexy again. Also, lots of love for the cleavagey classic costume. I don't care much for the new one in the comics. The ending is good, for what it was. Gwen's narration ties it up nicely, and the montagey variety of sex panels works to show us what kind of shenanigans the 3 of them get up to. Is Gwen doing anal in the 2nd panel? Sometimes it's hard to tell if that's what the artist intended, or if they were just going for "from behind". The f-on-m analingus doesn't really do it for me, and would have been much more enjoyable to see if Peter pulled out and came on Gwen's face or breasts after/while receiving it, instead of just on the ground. Facials, creampies, swallowing, etc. is always preferable to wasted cum. To summarize, Liquorish Whiskers is one of my favourite Tracy comics, along with such other great entries as Sexual Symbiosis, Spider-Girl/Spider-Man 2099, Black Cat: Prison Pussy, Scarlet Spiders: Maximum Clonecest, Our Valentine, Deadpool & the Gwen Stacys, Bunnies & Pussies, and most of the Spidercest ones. Can't wait for January's new ones, especially since we get more MJ/Felicia, and Anya's first real entry (nice to see Nomad in there too).

Both Gwen and Anya have these trademarked characteristic perky tiny boobies. I prefer that my artists get them rendered like that as well. =)

Sorry for the late comments, but it always makes my day when we get some more face time with spider-gwen! The more the better, as far as I'm concerned. And I love RenX's drawing style, and the decision to not give Gwen the ideal female body with big breasts. I'm sure we all love Gwen, and her 'normal style breasts' as much as possible, I know I do. I also absolutely love the whole impatient Felicia just rips off her costume, cornering her escape thing. The whole event seemed to give her a real girl / innocent girl kind of look. The kind of 'I would never do this unless drunk' appearance a girl making her last desperate attempt at the guy of her dreams would have. Sorry, at this point I'm just ranting, but I would definitely put this, and Spidercest#10 right at the top of my favorite releases, along with 'The Violation of Spiderwomen', 'Inheritors' and 'SpiderGwen.' Which probably hints to which art styles I prefer and some favorite characters, huh?

I'd have to think of some sort of conflict drama to write an interesting one-on-one story about them two, since they already do like each other. Maybe I can use some reference material after a few more new issues of the official Spider-Gwen comic hit the stands.

Oh yes, Felicia became just too damaged after the Superior arc. She's just not that same character we all fell in love with. To be honest, I'm probably gonna go one-on-one with Carol on that particular comic. 616 Jess will have her chance with the webhead later on, probably after her due date... ...unless a surprising large number of patrons tell me they are into preggo, which could eventually, make for a very kinky story. =)

I'm a fan of black cat. But I kind of like Gwen Stacey to. I kind of found it sweet that she came back just to see Peter. I'm hoping in the future they have a little more one on one with each other. :) Aside from that, comic was pretty good.

Always nice to see Kinky Black Cat to spice up the fun ! So much better than her current status of 'mob boss' in comics O.o And the in-character dialogue makes me more excited about future projects like Captain Marvel..actually feeling like her :D Heck you can throw 616 Jessica Drew in there too since she is Bffs with Carol :D

The funny thing is that all those captions were not in my original script, which RenX used to draw the panels. It only came clear to me how cool those would be, after she sent me the illustrated pages. Actually, that's not quite rare to happen, even in mainstream comics. Here's what Brian Michael Bendis have to say about it: "There will be occasions when the artwork does its job so well that the dialogue seems redundant or in the way. My biggest compliment to an artist occurs when I look at the page and say to myself that my dialogue is just in the way. Mark Bagley, with whom I worked with on Ultimate Spider- Man for 111 issues, is a good example of an artist whose work does just that. I look at his artwork and go over my script in response, asking myself, Do I really need that line of dialogue? Sometimes you’ll see something in the artwork and think of a better take on the dialogue, or a joke or one-liner to accompany it. Something will occur to you after seeing your story brought to life visually. Sometimes that ends up being the best writing you do. This is the comic book version of what happens in an editing room of a movie. You have all your materials and you start to really figure out how to accentuate what needs to be accentuated." - WORDS FOR PICTURES, page 42.

I want to congratulate you for the dialog in this issue. The best dialog was when Black Cat showed up starting "See that look on my face?". That was pure gold dialog and the art matched it perfectly. The rest of the dialog was typically Spider-like dialog with self-devaluation and poor self estim.
