I am struck by the similarities between the prepper books, Chad's books, etc and science fiction/fantasy novels of which I am a fan. I admire the imaginations of people like Mercedes Lackey, Robert Jordan, Tolkien, CS Lewis. But for the most part, their books are solidly fiction.

Barbarella

I get that. My tolerance is limited in this regard though, lol.

Susan

I’m with you but did try to listen to a lot of it to better understand his perspective if nothing else. (I might take my chances with the spirits over Chad’s tent in Rexburg haha sorry dark humor gets me through)

Chena M

I had to stop listening, perhaps because I am not a fan of organized religion, I just could not stand the ridiculousness of all this end of the world prepper talk and being inhabited by evil spirits, even if only momentarily....and he was so matter of fact about it. It just struck me as crazy and I was done after 50 minutes.

Susan

Also, you were so kind Lauren in not correcting him every single time he said “Willcocks” and not WOODCOCK! That was driving me insane. That he couldn’t even remember Kay and Larry’s real last name.

Emi Gibbons

I was so impressed with your interview skills most of all Lauren. He very much seemed like a blood relative of Lori Vallow. Especially at the beginning, he knew the EXACT number of times he’s been on television/radio, just like his cousin Lori. He was so matter of fact about the victims deaths too. His polite Mormon style dismissal of cousin Megan felt very disingenuous to me. He definitely lives in a very nice bubble of his own making. I mean he was respectful but it felt like you were interviewing a flat earther. I’m so glad I’m a Patreon member so I could make this comment here privately.

Having finished the interview, I found it really striking how matter-of-factly he describes how portals etc. work like he's describing how to play a video game. His constant references to books he's read and how good they are, it really just seems like a hobby that doesn't really affect his life in a major way. Other than the prepping, which tbh also just seems like a hobby he's into. I didn't hear any urgency or fear about the end of the world, he's just having a good time. I get the idea that he just doesn't have a wide education or interest in the world outside of the LDS bubble so these books are so exciting for someone who clearly has a lot of imagination. It's like he can't differentiate his enjoyment of reading these apocalyptic thrillers from his beliefs. Someone buy this guy some Michael Crichton or something!

Lauren

I can’t with this guy and his idea of fun.

Wendelin Thompson

Would like to hear Dr John's analysis of this interview. Is he delusional or gullible?

TN Barb

“They’re entertaining and I like them” is the most honest answer I’ve heard yet from the people who read and believe these doomsday fantasies

Lauren

He believes in portals and that God travels with portals! He also believes that people can become god!God!? Nothing he says here, other than prepping, should be believed. He is as delusional as Lori!

TN Barb

Lauren's journalism training, experience and self-control served us well in this interview. I learned so much and my level of concern, which was already high, shot up even higher.

Claudette

I just watched Episode 2, season 2 of Doomsday Preppers. He did score 71 on the prepper prepared list and he wasn't the most obnoxious I'd seen.

Sharon L Divis

He is frightening.
