Oh wow. There are parallels to the Murdaughs. But Paul, from the accounts from friends, had two distinct personalities. The one fueled by alcohol, Timmy, was angry, abusive irresponsible and devoid of reasoning abilities. Paul without alcohol was apparently a person capable of love and compassion. He loved Ms Gloria, the housekeeper, he cared for the dogs and his friends. The night of his death he was worried about the dog’s tail. He cared about Alex. He knew about the pills. The little detective. Maggie knew, too, and they weren’t happy. I don’t believe they were going to go along with Alex’s story anymore. Paul was enabled and encouraged by parents who used their societal power and influence to keep him from ever facing consequences. But according to friends, he felt guilt over Mallory’s death. He didn’t leave the scene (of course he couldn’t). He had a family telling him the narrative he would follow for court and appearances. He couldn’t admit the truth because his family wouldn’t allow it. His life could have been so different in a family that didn’t live in a house of cards where their reputation and legacy was far more important than the welfare of any one individual. But this guy Rand? Holy cow. Yeah, I don’t diagnose either, but he sounds like a narcissist with sociopathic tendencies to me. Maybe worse.
