Jodi Hildebrandt on love, black and white thinking, and new book club date

H2APPY 2024! A new Patreon-only episode! This afternoon I turned on the voice recorder after John requested I not. Here is the unedited convo that followed.

You guys have always been my most favorite podcast for so many reasons, but I am so happy I finally joined patreon and got back stories. It just confirms everything that I previously thought….. you are experts. You have professionalism. You have class. You try to do the right thing and admit that everyone makes mistakes. Keep up the good work and fighting the good fight. Side note, putting your relationship, and mutual respect for another (and obvious true partnership) out there is vulnerable and so heart warming.

@Emm Vee. As a Forensic Nurse I really want to study and help in the medical child abuse world. Thank you for your post!

Sam Evans

But given what Jodi has done, SHE might need a safe room.

Laura Biddle

Gypsy Rose once shot her mom with a BB gun?

Laura Biddle

I hope Gypsy Rose changes her name. I doubt she will, but there are so many reasons she should pick a new name.

Seems like a classic cult strategy to redefine the meaning of basic words, not only so you could control the way members think, but also alienate them from others by basically immersing them in an alternate language. I am so excited for the Hidden Live of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. I really hope Dr. John will be can expand on the definition of Medical child abuse, beyond Munchausen by proxy. I recommend to fellow Gems the podcast Nobody Should Believe Me, which features survivors and relatives of victims of medical child abuse, and the book Dying to be Ill by Gregory P. Yates and Marc D. Feldman. I do not think this kind of abuse is well understood, and I think it is much more common than we previously believed. I know this will be very difficult to cover without being demonetized on YouTube, I really appreciate you covering these tough subjects, because a better understanding of how this abuse functions will save lives. In the recent interviews, Gypsy confirmed for me, something I have believed for a long time in these cases. Something to the effect that her mother loved her as a child, but didn't any use for her as an adult. I thought about this a lot with Lori Vallow and and (my controversial opinion) Beata Kowalski. These women loved being the caretaker to a sick child, and they continued to infantilize those children as they were growing into adolescence, like the infamous picture of Gypsy Rose being bathed in the sink. Their identities as mothers weren't well defined beyond that, and their sense of who they were could not withstand being the mother of a young woman. The irony of her name, now a slur. Gypsy Rose Lee, famously exploited by her own mother, more in the manner of the Frankes before Hildebrandt... Such a trip.

You are right on Lauren. It’s obvious John can back up everything with peer reviewed points. I have a masters in educational technology and completed a program to be certified as a TOSD. I legit just want people parents and admin to listen to me. I’m 50. I have been a middle school for a long time. I’m so glad John has a platform to teach us.

New member! Thanks so much for your work and content. I used to describe Love as a verb to my son. True love for anyone has to involve action, not just fuzzy feelings.

Elizabeth

Gypsy Rose's mother deserved what she got, or at least imprisonment.

Barbara Rademacher

Whatever Jodi says love is, I will do the opposite.

Barbara Rademacher

Amazing show!!!! Love you guys!

Excellent Podcast guys! The title: "Jodi Hildebrandt on love, black and white thinking, and new book club date" is hilarious. Does Jodi have an opinion on the Book club date? ie That's not convenient for me, I have so much going on at the moment, house (Pol Pot with a pool) on the market, my girlfriend and kids not responding to my calls; damaged cactus (although succulents are notoriously robust)...grrrr, can we move book club to 2083?

Alex’ wife’s name is Julie Jeppson. She’s just now starting a podcast. The YouTube channel is called: TheBigFamilyJewels . You can see in the beginning how he is in the videos and then he’s not. I don’t know if he left them penniless, but she has had a tough time.

BlondeGranny

Wow! I had no idea

Lauren and John Matthias

A panic room is virtually not needed in Utah ! We don’t have the crime that a lot of places have. I think it’s been used as Jodi’s room for sadism. I think the prints all over the cabinets were RF and EF looking for food. How sad ! While I was in the Connexions group, I was amazed at the well known names that were in the group. One example is : Alex Boye. He and his family have a YouTube channel. He left his wife and family of 8 children. The wife has continued on with the channel, but she is devastated. Another family ruined while the husband was a part of Connexions !

From what I understand the bishop is essentially a volunteer and isn't technically trained.

A few thoughts - typically you would purchase a home like that to entertain. It doesn't sound like she was the warm and friendly type who hosted parties etc. Another thought I had is that if she is going to have a high bank account in prison, she will most likely use that to her advantage to gain control in prison. I'd also love to hear from her daughter.. Have you heard anything from her

You 2 are cute together. I hope you both feel better soon and have a wonderful new year!

Question for Lauren, does the LDS church have clergy that do counseling? If I were to go to my church's priest (I'm Episcopalian) he or she could provide counseling themselves. Is a Bishop a lay leade,? Someone who didn't go to seminary or a graduate school that prepares you to care for other's emotional and spiritual well-being? I have a whole branch of my family that is LDS, but we aren't close, I find the church fascinating. Thanks in advance and hope you feel better soon!

Becky (Rebecca Randall)

Love these discussions. I am so fascinated by people who use religion to harm others, especially children. It is so mind blowing how people can be so manipulating and cruel to other people and be ok with it. Glad that you all will have a session (discussion) on Gypsy Rose. I fear she is going down the same road with enjoying all media attention.

Marcella Able

Great job, get well!

Carla Perkins

The discussion on Hermeneutics is absolutely fascinating to me! Is this where religion (all of them) come from? I think of native peoples of countries and how they might worship things like volcanoes, weather etc… an attempt to make order?

Pppmomof3

I always learn so much listening to you two discussing psychology. It gives me the same mind-opening feeling as I had in my college philosophy classes.

Heidi Thompson

Thanks for helping make sense of the non-sensical. Having been married to a tyrant for 30 yrs. who was also a black and white thinker, I appreciate more understanding. Thanks for recording/sharing it. And exciting news at the end! (I can’t wait for you to share what the other extras in the house are after your tour of Jodi’s house). I enjoyed the walk through conversation with Julie H. today.

ShaRee

Thank you for turning on the recorder. Thank you for always doing the heavy lifting for us. (Like reading chads books or listening to JH-I just can’t listen to her) Wishing you a speedy (or speedier) recovery. Happy 2024🎉🥳🎊

Dr. John's observations are always so inspiring/insightful. I learn from him, too.
