BUILD LOG
Added 2017-12-03 05:13:27 +0000 UTCSo, today I started putting my PC together.
I'm semi new at this so it's going slow.
- The CPU fan took 3 attempts to install correctly. The first time I put way too much thermal paste on and was in a panic because it got on the side of the CPU. THANKFULLY ASUS HAS A CPU SET TOOL THAT YOU CLIP ONTO THE CPU AS YOU INSTALL IT, which shielded the CPU from getting any paste on the bottom. I just had to clean off the edge with coffee filters carefully. That was a massive panic.
- Attempt 2 went fine, but I realized I forgot to untangle the power cord. It can't be untangled when it's installed. So I had to remove it a second time, get the cord moved tot he side, and then try again.
- Attempt 3 I was finally able to get it on. Cryotek H7 coolers are a BITCH to install.
- For power connectors, I've attached the case fans, the CPU fan, the front USB 3.0 hub, the front audio connectors, and the power switch all installed.
- I ran a test with it and it booted into Bios successfully. At first it was only reading half my RAM. I finagled with it, both ram sticks worked by themselves, and at first feared slot B2 was a dud--however, it turns out I just wasn't pressing the RAM in hard enough. I have a full 16GB now.
- I already ran the utilities to clock up the RAM to its 2800Mhz speed, and it applied a base overclock to the CPU it looks like. I'll deal morewith that later.
- All installed fans are VERY quiet, CPU and case both. I want to install one more intake fan on the front.
I still need to...
- Install my 240GB SSD, and install Windows10
- Install my 2TB HDD
- Install my USB expansion slot
- Organize my cables
- Get my stuff moved over
- Transfer my GPU when everything is set, installed, and done
I'll be doing that tomorrow. I've already bled inside my case so it's mine now it has my DNA in it.
The s340 case is nice but MAN is it a little cramped.
