IT'S HAPPENING
Above: the portal. It's namely some glow effects and blurry masking, with some turbulence on the drawing of the father. He's just a static image whenever he appears. No movement for him. The portal actually will play at 12 fps, all previews here have to be rendered realtime however, and as they're just screen recording I have to pause so it can load each frame. (Can't do a live playback like I can with GUI previews)

Candles. Again more toying with the 'glow' node. It's my favorite.
I'm gonna have some ambient gradients set to overlay to provide the shots with a lot more dramatic 'mood' but that's a post processing thing.
(can't do a preview for this one, click this link!)
Lipsynch of probably my favorite line in this entire thing.

Already shared, but it's just the scroll materialization effect. The scroll pops in with just 2 frames, while the clod beforehand is only 3. Sometimes simple works best. (This is what I mean by live playback as well, notice the lack of antialiasing. That means it's a GUI render, so things like glow won't appear.)
I've just realized I still need to put Hiro's insignia on his chest, but I planned ahead and can easily wire up something with some masking so I don't have to keep repositioning it. (I wanna do a few jokes where it looks like a dick instead of a hammer)
And then I just have to draw Hiro looking at his scroll and that's literally everything. I actually think I might have it done this week, and then published the week after.
