Doctor Who 2x4 “The Girl in the Fireplace” FULL REACTION

Comments

I realize the Doctor didn't intentionally leave Reinette, but it sucks that she waited all those years and never saw him again. And he lost another friend. it's sad.

Interesting to finally see someone else who has a muted reaction to Girl In The Fireplace - certainly not one of my favourites (I'd place it about 7th favourite for me in this season out of 13, so right in the middle). I do enjoy it a lot more on re-watches though.

Judging how he handled the sci-fi concepts of this episode (not that well); I really fear for him, when the show gets to the Moffat era...

The writer of this episode, Stephen Moffat, does like to play around with some of the consequences of time travel - meeting people in the wrong order, paradoxes of cause and effect, and so on. That's something you may notice in future episodes he writes, so watch out for his name in the credits. He also wrote The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances 2 parter, and comes up with some of the best stories on this era of DW.

The reason they went for her brain is that the ship was named after her, ships sometimes being named after historical figures. So when the ion blast hit the ship and they become glitched and confused they thought that for a new command circuit, only her brain would do. And please stay off your phone during reactions :) A lot of people love this episode, I think it's good but not quite as good as all that.

I already commented this on your last DW reaction, but I don't think you read my comment. I don't know if you'll ever watch classic Who or not, so I think it's safe to tell you this. Sarah Jane is one of only two companions the Doctor has ever willingly left behind up to this episode. I guess you could also include Adam from the last series, but I don't tbh. The other one was his first ever companion called Susan. Oh and she's also his granddaughter just so you know. 😄 This episode makes it seem like the Doctor just dumps his companions whenever he wants, but he's done that very rarely. The problem with the Doctor is that he subjects himself to the pain of always losing someone by taking on a new companion all the time.
