Sydney Newman created the Show and Verity Lambert produced it. The first female producer at the bbc, and its why the early seasons of classic who had equal female characters. The show took a male centric turn after she left

He played khaleesi's Brother in the first season - also schools back then would regularly punish students by beatings or spankings , right up to the 70's/80's. I don't know how it was in America, but my Dad said his teacher once punished him by cracking his knuckles with a metal ruler, it was common place then. Of course now its very illegal.
