I suspect the Originals will surprise you when you get to know more about them. They are awesome villains. I like this episode as it is nice to know about Katherine's background, and that scene where she is looking at the picture of her family is the only time I ever feel sorry for her. To me, Slater is the best advertisement for being a vampire. If you really wanted to contribute something to society, long term, it would be a wonderful opportunity. Studying fields of research over time which is much longer than anyone else can, could lead to medical breakthroughs, science, helping climate change, history... the list is endless. You could turn what is essentially something bad, into something good. If you remember, Damon met Bree in college and Damon mentioned Stefan went to Harvard; so both brothers have been to college since turning. Great reaction, looking forward to the next one.
