Doctor Who Special “Waters of Mars” FULL REACTION

Doctor Who Special “Waters of Mars” FULL REACTION

Yeah I wouldn’t want that responsibility either. Im just confused why The Doctor needed to be a part of certain events at all. Adelaide would’ve enacted protocol 5 or whatever it was on her own. I guess there wouldn’t be a story though. But the Tardis takes him places for a reason. And if he’s not allowed to save certain people it all seems pointless sometimes. That’s probably how he felt and then he was like “screw it” I’m gonna use the power that I have for once.

Yeah, I’ve done this sort of mind experiment. I imagined how I would go back to elementary school and tell the parents of my bullies what they were doing wrong. How their kids would ruin my life and the lives of a couple of my classmates. Then I imagined, well, I’d have to tell my parents and parents of other classmates to get cancer-tests before they actually did. The parents of my best friend, I would have to warn about their oldest son, he might be struggling, experimenting with hard drugs...Then I thought, well, if I had that opportunity why would I be selfish, I would need to somehow warn people about all future terrorist attacks, major accidents.. And at that point, my actions would impact today in an incomprehensible way. People who live now, would never have existed. It’s too much responsibility. It’s not right. So, I get the doctor and the logic of the show, that certain points in time are fixed and have to be. If not, then why did the doctor not prevent the Holocaust or every other genocide. He would have to be a monster, which the Doctor decidedly is not.

Listen this episode is dark but u have to love that the doctor apparently sees the events of time as wikipedia articles flashing in his head

Two Specials to go. Very exciting .....

Brandon is no longer here😈

Murray Gold, his wonderful compositions are such a great part of modern WHO.

"Don't drink the water, don't even touch it". Then Brandon takes a sip anyway. Wonder how long before he starts converting .....

The 'little people' thing is kind of scary, because the (10th?) Doctor probably thinks like that most of the time and just doesn't usually say it out loud. But yeah, if he was going to decide to do something, 20 minutes earlier might have been better! People probably assumed that Adelaide thought that she was contaminated and that's why she killed herself.

Pretty much universally regarded as on of David Tennant's best episodes, if not one of the best stories in Doctor Who overall. It shows how close the Doctor is to becoming like the Master - a megalomaniac unrestrained by the limitations of morality and things such as cause and effect. The Timelord Victorius, who can bend the laws of time to his will.

You know your British actors. You recognised Lyndsay Duncan on sight :). This is one of the standalone stories that I keep coming back to. Not because of the plot (there's not really much more to it than "Water zombies!" "Run!!"),but because it's relentlessly gripping, and gives #10 more substance. As you say,the ending - although powerful - contains flawed logic: Adelaide shooting herself would not automatically put history back on track,as the circumstances would be quite different; but it does help to remind us that the Tenth Doctor should never be 'the oncoming storm';and that (to borrow a phrase from the First Doctor) "you can't rewrite history. Not one line!!" Incidentally, don't you just love TV countdowns? Adelaide initiates the 60 second countdown to nuclear detonation. One minute later,it's just reached "44 seconds remaining" :D

Ian Smith

This has some of my favourite music in the entire series, and the soundtrack to most of it was never released officially, damn it. 😀

This episode is a fantastic dive into the doctor morality and why he needs a companion. Also, this episode was foreshadowed in the titanic Christmas special when Mr Copperfield said something like “if you could choose who lived and who died, you’d be a monster”. This episode it also shows that the doctor can technically do anything, but has to make the moral choice to not do it. Poor Doctor, he just wants to travel 😂

It was very enjoyable!😄

I'm so happy you enjoyed this! I absolutely love this story. I really like the tension and build up of the Bowie Base and the crew's unfortunate fate. They characterised most of them so well that it made me really feel for them. The direction is great and there's a real creepy factor with The Flood creatures. The broken mouth pouring out water always creeped me out. I also loved the dilemma with The Doctor wanting to save the crew but forcing himself to not do it. I'm glad you mentioned that he needs a companion because this episode really showcases why. I also liked the Pompeii mention as it reminds you of Donna. Adelaide was such a good character. I like how her flashbacks are a reference to the Series 4 finale from someone else's point of view. I loved the scenes she had with The Doctor. It's scary to see The Doctor become unstable but I absolutely love it at the same time. The dark timelord victorious side of the Doctor emerging, the shocked look on Adelaide's face and the music becoming sinister is a great way to indicate how he went too far. I agree with you that I would absolutely love to see more of this. The scenes with him acting like a god, telling Adelaide that she was going to die, listening to the crew dying and the final part with him realising his actions are absolutely brilliant. Definitely one of my favourites.
