Doctor Who 5x5 “Flesh and Stone” FULL REACTION

Awesome review as ever. It was round about this point in the series that the sneaking and treacherous thought that the 11th Doctor might be about to oust Ten from my favourite Doctor top spot started to form :P

This is a solid two parter but I kinda prefer the first half over the second half. The only thing that lets down this episode for me is the fact that we see the Angel move which I really didn't like. I always found it cool that from an audience perspective, we never see the angel move just like the characters but seeing it just breaks the immersion for me. Plus I'm not a huge fan of them being able to snap necks either. I don't like the ending with Amy trying to seduce the Doctor either. It just felt out of place. So it loses a bit of points for that. Bu aside from these issues, its still a good episode. Not as strong as Blink but still really good and enjoyable. A lot of tense moments which I liked.

For me Matt Smith owns every scene he's in, especially like his thought process and the way he rambles with a confidant but childish glee. "Don't worry I'll do a Thing..." - "What thing?" - "I dunno yet, Respect the Thing!" - He's the most Alien. Moffats writing helps too, even helped give Tennant some breat scenes too. Not to mention making Amy a Companion that gets stuck into the action and even saves the day on more than one occasion.

Remember back in Silence in the Library when River sat down with Tennant's Doctor and started going through her diary to work out where they were relative to each other? The first thing she asked was "Have we done the crash of the Byzantium yet?" The wrecked ship they are climbing through in this episode is called the Byzantium. So here they are! I think this 2 parter really cemented Matt Smith as the Doctor. He was great from the start, but really excelled here. As for his relationship with Amy, I think having met her as a 7 year old, he still always sees her as that little girl, and is more paternal and protective than anything else. Romance has noting to do with it, from his point of view.

My heart skipped a beat when you said (after only 5 episodes) that Matt Smith might be your favorite Doctor. River Song: “You, me, handcuffs. Must it always end this way?”

This is a two-parter that, over time, I've grown more and more happy with. I really like it and every time I revisit it, I laugh at the dialogue and adore the tension. This is also, funnily enough, the first two episodes Matt Smith and Karen Gillan filmed and somehow they feel sooo natural in their roles here like they've been playing them for ages. I still remember seeing set photos w/ them on the beach with the new TARDIS exterior and River Song. Good times.

Evan!!

And again, thank you so much for the double upload!
