I don't know why you find it so unbelievable that all the aliens would leave after the Doctor's speech, even if the whole thing was a trap. They're all terrified of him as he's the only being in the galaxy that has consistently stopped every single one of their plans, without fail. Even the Daleks, the most powerful race in the universe, fear the Doctor

Re: going to the oldest planet. Same as the Angel two-parter, River just knows he'll eventually be there. It didn't have to be this Doctor that went, circumstances just made it so that he did.
