I think this is the sort of story Torchwood is best at - exploring the personal delimas and consequences of the rift, etc. Ignore the Chibnal-haters, and make up your own mind from what you see. You really must watch Broadchurch, which is probably his best work (stars David Tennant and Olivia Coleman, so its worth it just for that).
