I may be wrong but I think the Katie thing is that she has a fancier education or something and so was able to be promoted quickly without as much on the ground experience. Kind of like how rich kids with fancy degrees can get promoted quicker in the military? I'm not certain, but I think it's along those lines. I'd like to think that the UK police are not as shitty as the US (if only because I love their cop shows so much), but sadly, I have to assume that there's probably plenty of bias there, just fewer guns. Many of police in Britain do not carry firearms, believe it or not. I totally agree that it's amazing that they wrote Trish as flawed and interesting as they did. I do fault Beth a little for going off on the other victim, because as much as I agree with what she said, she is making assumptions about the other person's situation. First off, it's unlikely that anything Beth said isn't something the woman hasn't thought or struggled with herself. Secondly, some women may face victim blaming or cultural shame from their families if they disclose that they've been raped. That being said, I do understand where Beth is coming from and share her frustration. I think Ellie's anger towards Tom's porn is not just about Joe, but is colored by the case that she's working and being fed up with rape culture and toxic masculinity. I do agree that ideally she should have a bit more patience and a longer discussion about it. And yeah, Dad Alec is a nice new dimension to that character and kind of sweet.
