2021-02-12 16:20:15 +0000 UTCI think he was pretty oblivious. He kind of only saw what he wanted to see the entire time. He thought she was super into him when she was only mildly interested. And he only talked about himself most of the time. Nice guy though, they just weren’t on the same page at all and Fleabag has some issues that were getting in the way of all her relationships.

2021-02-11 14:03:01 +0000 UTCI liked your observation that she was able to be physically affectionate with the totally phony Godmother and not with anyone who actually was offering real intimacy. PWB wrote the role of Godmother for Olivia Colman after OC told her she'd do anything that Phoebe wrote after seeing the stage production. I really enjoyed this first season as a quirky little interlude, but it really is the much acclaimed second season that reaches the level of a true work of art. I'm trying not to say anything to spoilery, but you are definitely on the right track that she's very damaged and vulnerable and acting out. Hope this is one that you continue through with because the 6 or so total hours are totally worth the journey.

2021-02-11 06:08:36 +0000 UTCJust so you know, this show takes a bit of tradition from theatre (it was originally adapted from a one-woman play Phoebe Waller-Bridge did), so a lot of the characters don't have names. The main character is not named, but we usually call her Fleabag, her father is not named, and the stepmother is usually just called the Stepmother. The show can be a bit offputting at first but it genuinely is some of the best TV I've ever seen.
