Joss Whedon...

So disappointed in hearing more and more about how awful Joss Whedon’s behavior actually is. Buffy is my favorite show. I grew up with it and it definitely has some genius moments, great writing, and great acting. But first Ray Fisher’s comments on Whedon’s “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” behavior and then his treatment of Charisma Carpenter especially his “are you going to keep it?” comment when she got pregnant and now Michelle Tractenburg saying there was a rule that he was not allowed alone in a room with her again after very inappropriate behavior during Buffy. I believe these actors even though it hurts. Just goes to show we shouldn’t idolize anyone as hard as that is in a world where many of us feel lost and are looking for guidance especially on our tv screens. 🤯🤭🤬😩🤦🏽‍♀️

This happens a lot. The reboot of Macgyver had to get rid of their original executive producer because he would always abuse Lucas Till. Telling him he needed to bulk up and gain weight, telling him he was a weakling; and he can't do the job, that sort of thing. It really hurt him mentally. They ended up getting a new executive producer for the show. Hopefully that helps everyone out a lot more.

It makes sense that most of the male cast didn’t know what went on since Whedon probably directed his behavior at the women and girls. I guess his behavior was harder to hide on the set of Justice League though.

I saw Anthony Head on TV the other day, saying he'd had a sleepless night since finding out (the previous day) about Whedon. He said he'd had no idea,as the set always seemed pretty harmonious; but he was also disappointed that no-one had come to him and told him,as he'd always been regarded as the casts father-figure.

Besides politics, this seems to happen most in the entertainment industry. They have a lot of money and power, and we all know how that works out. Even today, I feel like they’re giving us endless lectures on how to be a better person, while they get to do whatever they want. I’ve learned I have to sometimes separate the work from the artist, otherwise I may not be able to enjoy anything. It’s not always possible, but I give it a try. Idolising anyone, let alone those in Hollywood, is never a good thing.

As you say, it goes to show we shouldn't idolize anyone. Not just because we don't know who they truly are outside of the art they create, but also because we give them power that can be abused by idolizing them. If his shows/movies weren't so beloved and he as a person so idolized, he probably wouldn't have gotten away with the behavior that Ray Fisher and Charisma Carpenter describe.

Yeah it certainly does suck because I’m a big fan of Joss Whedon’s style, and learning that even this man is sexist behind closed doors while he has profited so much off writing and directing strong female characters in shows that have inspired people since the 90’s... yeah it just sucks. It makes it hard for me to trust motivations of any man, even ones I admire for their creativity and intelligence. But at least I have never idolized anyone, I’m never too crushed when stuff like this comes to light. I’m just kind of disappointed that my cynicism is being reinforced yet again. Sigh.

Yes, I'm also really hurting over all of it. 🙁It's quite obviously all true.
