2021-02-19 22:22:36 +0000 UTCI enjoyed that :) I was the same age in the early 80's as the lead characters. One of my best friends at that time (Laurence) was very VERY similar to Colin. He didn't work in a men's outfitters - but a shop (in a posh part of London) selling high-end light fixtures and chandeliers :D We were part of a group that hung out together,which included myself and my girlfriend. One night he invited us to a party at the house of one of his gay friends;which was very much in the style of the one in this episode! My girlfriend and I walked in rather timidly,holding hands - to be greeted by the sight of lots of male flesh,and a couple of guys making out on the living room carpet! Nonetheless,by the end of the evening we were completely accepted into his social group and remained a part of it through the 80's. We sadly lost touch with them (apart from Laurence) when we moved out of the area. It was a fun time to be young,and I miss that era greatly - but the AIDS epidemic was ALWAYS there as part of a grim background;spoiling things and making the two of us worried for our friends. (Laurence is fine,though - and he now runs the Chandelier shop!) Looking forward to part 2.

I can’t believe a whole year passed in this episode but I find so many period shows do the same thing. Colin and his friendship with his coworker and boyfriend was so wholesome I wish it lasted longer. I’ll definitely be watching more!

God it’s just amazing tv and watching episode 1 again for the second time breaks my heart... 😭 hopefully that’s not too spoilery! I was just like Richie in my 20s... basically I have struggled to have long term gay friends because I basically slept with them all when I was younger 🤦🏻♂️ and though the ‘community’ isn’t what it was MAN I wanna go to a gay bar right now and be with other likeminded people rather than stuck in my apartment day in, day out... bring back real life please!!
