Also, I think the episode where Jesse was at his parents' house gave us a lot of information about what things might've been like for him growing up. His younger brother Jake was probably max 13 years old, and already was using marijuana. Before that we saw his room full of accolades and him sitting at the dinner table while his parents talked about whether his musical proficiency was stronger on the oboe or piccolo. It seems clear that there were high expectations from those parents and quite possibly love was earned through accomplishment. If Jesse felt like he couldn't live up to his parents' expectations, he probably felt he wasn't deserving of love which seems like a cause to turn to drugs if I've ever heard one. We've seen how being called worthless, useless, etc. by Walt and others is a trigger for him - that's what Walt was yelling at him about before Jesse lunged at him in this episode. And sadly his brother could be headed for a similar path. There doesn't have to be outright abuse for children to feel unloved and emotionally neglected by their parents.

2023-07-13 16:21:34 +0000 UTCI am definitely not on Jesse's parents' side. He's a kid in his early 20s who for whatever reason has had trouble coping and fallen into drugs. He needs support but his parents have completely given up on him. I feel so bad for him. They took legal action against him?! Forced him to vacate a house that wasn't even their residence and threatened to turn him into the police if he didn't comply?! That is some serious shit. And we've seen no indication that he's done anything to warrant that kind of response from them. That isn't tough love, it's no love. If that's the kind of relationship they have with him, it's no wonder he is the way he is.
