Someone was commenting on past episodes about how Ian seems to seek external validation from others, which is part of why running off with Mickey was so temping because of how much Mickey knows, loves, and accepts him. I think the scene last episode of Ian breaking into that church with some of the shelter kids to show it to them was important to why this has become so personal for him. In that moment I don't think his relationship with Trevor had very much to do with it, but rather that the kids were so excited about it and saying Ian was like magical for being able to get them that place. I think that scene was there to show how that validation impacted Ian and now he's basically on a crusade to be the hero for these kids. Personally I was not on Fiona's side with this because I do think it's kinda gross how quickly she seems to have flipped over to the pro-gentrification side because of a few - let's face it - straight up lucky breaks that landed her in her current position. Yes, she took initiative with Patsy's which was awesome and then with the laundry mat she was doing well too - even though she was only able to get it in the first place because of Etta and taking advantage of her. Then the whole thing with making 100% profit from it was just out of luck that Margo offered that because of how much she really wanted to acquire it. She THOUGHT Fiona knew what she was doing and was purposely holding out but that was not that case. And then happening to meet that guy who wanted to sell the apartment building fast and cheap (after fucking). She doesn't know anything about being a landlord and something tells me she's going to be in for a reality check pretty soon. Saying that any of the homeless kids have just as much of a chance to make it like she did I think is very wrong. That all said, I'm not really on Ian's side of this argument either because of the reasons I talked about earlier - that he's in it for personal reasons, related to his self esteem and mental health. I think he is and will continue to take it too far. So while you said you're conflicted because you think they're both right, I'm conflicted but because I think they're both wrong! 🤣 Or misguided, at least.

2023-07-05 19:29:33 +0000 UTCWhen I watched this episode I felt like it could maybe also be personal for Ian because he was in the same situation as those kids once. When he ran away in season 3/season 4, he was a homeless person (basically). He made the choice to leave for the army, but things all escalated because of his mental illness. I dont know -- I just felt like maybe that could also be something that he was thinking about. But I'm not sure if that's true, maybe I'm just making things deeper than they actually are.
