"Their lives are never going to be better than this moment right here" - goosebumps. Probably not true for Seth, but Ryan and Marissa... Early OC is so good, gawd. It's exactly as you said, it makes you want to be young again. I also love teen shows. When they're good, they're really good and hit you really hard emotionally. My fav is (the first three seasons of) Elite. Thank you for taking them so seriously. I really like how nuanced your reactions are.

Everyone mistakes Ryan and Marissa as falling quickly in love when it's more complex and based on situational dynamics and attachment styles. They both desperately want different and less complicated lives and see that in each other. Marissa is idealized as the community darling, but she, like Seth and Ryan, is just as much of a "misfit" in her environment. That was the point of the music and Kerouac conversation. She wants to escape from societal expectations and gain allowance, acceptance, and opportunity for who she is authentically, just as they (and anyone). Seth and Marissa bring the potential for that for Ryan, while Ryan brings those possibilities for them.

I love that Luke is that human, like they didn't make him completely bad like most of the shows does, they're showing us there is no one totally good or bad, and that's something I really appreciate about The OC. Can't wait to see the rest of the season with u.
