I liked Matt in this ep. Didn’t really care about his motives but it is easy to understand. I remember the show runner talking about liking when there’s multiple villains. And where one is doing a bunch of killing and one is more “intellectual” so in season one Peter was the killer villain and Kate was the “intellectual” one. And in this season Matt’s the killer and Gerard is the intellectual one. Not sure how many other seasons stick to that but there are a few more that have similar set ups.

In the moment Matt passed the Kanima needed a new Master and Gerard was there so they bonded. Gerard knew that once the Kanimas master was dead, it would seek a new Master and he just needed to be there.
