The reasdon Lydia was seeing those faces in her house is mostly just her Banshee powers trying to tell her about the key. She's just slowly learning to tune into it and accept it more. I get your frustration at Scott, he could've done a much better job if he'd tried but I guess it's the show reminding us that despite being an alpha, he's still learning himself and he's never turned someone else before. He was just repeating what he'd heard from Derek when he first got turned because that's all he's known. I thought the "we're brothers now" was so hilarious because it's clearly someone else's words and hearing Scot say it is just ridiculous. Derek also wasn't a great mentor at first, Scott had to find his own way of leading/ being an alpha and turning Liam is a great way to explore that, I think.
