2024-05-09 15:01:03 +0000 UTCThis is late but the reason they are in calculus is because it's a core part of the curriculum. They don't have the option not to take it. The guidance counselor mentioned it a few episodes ago.

He probably believed it when he said it, but I've always thought Dan is in love with whoever can make him feel good about himself. Many times that used to be Deb, because she gave him so many chances. And he started to think she'll always do that, put up with him and take his abuse. She had to straight up tell him she tried to murder him for him to accept they were over. And realising he wasn't going to get yet another chance, it's suddenly him saying he never loved her. That's just to hurt her feelings, because he knows she doesn't have anything more to give him, and because recognising he put her through so much that she would go that far can only make him feel worse about himself, not better. Now Karen is the woman who can make him feel better about himself. He imagines redeeming himself through her, so now she's the person he always loved.
