And also his horrified look when he saw them transform for the first time right in front of him. I feel like we're lacking a bit of those type of reactions nowadays with Doctor Who. I still feel like Ruby should have had a similar reaction or at least something more reactionary when she encountered the goblins stealing the baby in the recent Christmas special.
